Appiiation medirarehfis, ieee. serial No. 95,528.
I do hereby declare the following taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the `characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear` and exact description ofthe invention, and which said drawings constitute part` of this "application, and represent, in-
Fig. 1 a perspective view of a toy con- `structed in accordance with my invention.`
Fig. 2 a plan viewwith the top removed.
Fig 3 an end view with the end-piece removed.
Fig. l a sectional of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 a perspective` view slides detached.
This invention relates to improvement in toys, and particularly to toys having mov-` ing figures but which may alsoV include soundrproducing devices.` The object of the invention is to produce a simple and `attractive toy in which a series of figures will be projected above the upper face of the top 'and may` embody a moving ligure` in front of the device, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly p recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a box-like casing 10 of any desired design and formed in its top with a longitudinalslot 11. In the front 12 of the box I form a vertical slot 13. In the inner face of thefront of one of the 12 are a series of vertically-arranged guides` 14, between whichare slides 15 having heads or other devices. These slides are formed with holes or notches 17, and preferably above the holes or notches are blocks18. Extending transversely through the box and supported by the endsthereof isa shaft 19,
`formed with a slot in its top, the inner face provided at one end with a crank-handle 20. Mounted in this shaft are a series ofpins 21 arranged at different angles, one pin arranged in line with each slide and of a length adaptedl to engage with and raise the slides as the shaft is turned. To apply a friction or drag upon the shaft, I employ flat springs 22, which are secured in the case and extend into frictional engagement with the shaft `19 and, if-desired, short `pins 26may be mounted in the shaft 19 in line with these springs, so as to `depress their outer ends and allow them to snap rbackagainst the shaft to produce a sound. If desired, a` bell 23 or other soundproducing device may waa View on the line 4 4 beil attached to the shaft, so as to turn therewith.
A figure 24 is mounted on a pin 25 `extending through the slot 13 into one'of the slides 15 and in line therewith,` so that when this particularV slide moves, the figur-e outside the box will move with it. Asthe shaft is turned, the pins will engage with the slides, in line with them, and lift the slides so as to expose the upper ends or heads through the slot 11, above the top of the box, and as the pins pass out of engagement with the slides they will drop by gravity. The object of providing the blocks 18 is to increase the time in which the head will be exposed. This toy is simple in construction and amusing to watch, as the heads are successively exposed to view.
I claim:
1. A toy, comprising a box-like casing formed with a slot inits top,`the inner face of the front of the box provided with guideways, toy-figures mounted in said guideways, a shaft extending through the box parallel with the front and in rear of the figures and provi-ded with radial pins adapted to directly engage with and raise said figures at each revolution of the shaft.
2. A toy, comprising a` box-like casing formed with a slot in its top, the inner face of the front of the box provided with guideways, toy-figures mounted in said guideways in line with said slot, notches in the back of said figures, a shaft mounted in said casing parallel with the front thereof and provided with pins arranged in line with said figures and"` adapted to engage with the notches thereof, raised.
3.` A toy, comprising a box-like casing of the front of the box provided with guideways, toy-figures mounted n said guideways in line blocks on the backs of said figures above said notches, a transverse shaft mounted in said casinoa and provided with pins arranged in line with and adapted to engage with the said notches, whereby the figures are raised.
through the box parallel with the face there- Y of and provided With pins adapted to engage and reise said figures, and reterding springs extending into fretional engage nient Withk said shaft.
5. A toy,V comprising a box-like easing formed with a slot in its top, the inner faee of the vfront of the box provided with Ways, toy-figures mounted in Said guide- Weysrin line -with said slot, e Shaft extending through the box parallel with the 'face thereof A and{prcrvided with ypins rdapted to engage .unl 'reise Seid figures. springs ex tending into frictiongil engagement With said shaft, and `Short pins mounted in the shaft andadapted vto 'depress ls ai'd springs.
gul-Cle 6. A toy, comprising a easing, a transverse slot in the top of said easing, the front of theV casing provided on .its inner `face with vertical Yguideways7 vertically-movable toyfigures bet-Ween'eaid guide'ways in line WithV also forinedwith a Vertiv eel slot, a shaft mounted in said easing paralsaid Slot, the front lel with the face thereof, pins mounted in Saidshaft and-adapted to engage and lift 'rHoMp-ns f R, rrnorrrson.
