T. A. JOHNSON GARMENT HANGER Original Filed Jan. 29, 1925 Patented 0a. 19, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THURS A. JOHNSON, or am, MASSACHUSETTS.
GARMENT HANGER.
Application Med January 29, 1925, Serial Io. 5,511. Renewed August 3, 1926 This invention relates to improvements in garment hangers and has for its princi pal object to provide a simple and eificient device for supporting a number of ordinary coat hangers or the like, on a hanger bar, which is supported on a wall in a closet.
()ne of the important objects of the pres ent invention is to provide a garment hanger of the above mentioned character, where in the same is adapted to be suspended from an ordinary clothes hook secured on a vertical wall, whereby a number of garments may be accommodated, and further permitting the device to be readily detached from the supporting hook, Whenever necessary.
A still further object is to provide a garment hanger of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further well adapted for the purpose for which it is designated.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following detailed description.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure l is a side elevation of the garment hunger, embodying my invention, showing the manner in which the same is suspended from an ordinary clothes hook secured on a vertical wall, and
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the garment hanger, embodying my invention.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved garment hanger, the same comprising a supporting block 2, the sides thereofgradually converging toward the upper edge thereof, the upper edge being slightly rounded, as clear- 1y illustrated in Figure 2. An opening 3 is provided in the upper portion of the supporting block and provided with a means whereby the latter may be suspended from an ordinary clothes hook 4, which is secured to a wall or other vertical surface 5, in the manner well known in the art.
For the purpose of holding the supporting block 2 in parallel spaced relation with respect to the wall or vertical surface 5, there of such hangers.
is provided on the rear face of the block,
at the lower portion thereof, the spacing member 6. The manner in which the spacing member 6 cooperates with the rear face of the supporting block 2 and'the wall 5 is clearly illustrated in Figure l.
A relatively lon hanger bar, which is substantially circu ar in cross section, is supported, at its inner end, in suitable openings, provided therefor, in the lower portions of the supporting block 2, and spacin member 6 respectively. The hanger bar, w ich is designated by the numeral 7 is inclined upwardly, and an enlarged ball shaped head 8 is fitted on the outer end of the hanger bar.
Any number of coat hangers of the ordinary construction, on which are placed the various garments to be supported may be hung on the hanger bar 7, the latter being of such length as to accommodate a number The ball shaped head 8 and the upward inclination of the hanger bar will prevent the accidental displacement or lateral sliding movement in an outward direction, of the coat hangers from the bar.
The simplicity in which my device is constructed, enables the same to be readily and easily attached or detached with respect to a clothes hook, which is supported on one of the walls of a closet.
YVhile I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape, and arrangement or" parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed is:
A garment hanger comprising a support-- ing block the same being provided with an openin 1n the upper portion thereof for suspending the block from an ordinary clothes hook secured on a \valLa spacing member secured on the rear face of the lower portion of the block for holding the lat ter in parallel spaced relation with respect to the wall, the lower. portion of said block and said spacing member being provided with alined openings, and a hanger bar havingnits inner end fitted in said opening.
testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
