PETER VAN DYK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
NECKTIE Application f11ed July 22,
This invention relates to attachments for neckties, and has for one of its objects to provide a holder upon which a four-in-hand necktie may be formed in a manner to obviate the necessity of passing a portion of the necktie about the collar and through the medium of which the necktie thus formed may be readily secured to the front collar button.
With the foregoing and other objects 111 view, the nature of which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the 1nvention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a view in front elevation illustrating the application of a necktle to the holder,
Figure 2 is a detail view in front elevation of the holder,
Figure 3 is a detail view in rear elevatlon of the holder,
Figure -l is a sectional view taken 011 the plane indicated by the hne 4-4 of Figure 2, and
Figure 5 is a similar view taken'on the plane indicated by the hne 5-5 of F1gure 2.
The holder comprises a body 1 which may be made of aluminum or any other material rrtahlc for the purpose. The upper portion 1 of the body 1 is wider than the lower portion 1 thereof, and the side and upper edges 2 and 3, respectively, of the body are of concave formation. The lower end of the body 1 is bent or rolled rearwardly to provide an eye 4 which is of less length than the width oh? the adjacent part of the body and in which are positioned the adjacent ends 5 of an inverted. Ushaped attaching element 6. The attaching element 6 is thus pivotally mounted for movement into a depending position with respect to the body 1 or into an upstanding position at the rear side of the body.- The upper ends of the body 1 are bent to provide inwardly directed hooks 7 HOLDER.
1926. Serial No. 124,235.
which are arranged in substantially parallel relation to the rear sides of said ends.
In practice, the necktie is formed about the body 1 in a manner similar to that employed to form a four-in-hand necktie in the customary manner, and to. facilitate the formation of the necktie about the body 1 Q the attaching element 6 is swung into its depending position with respect to the body. The concave edges 2 and 3 of the body 1 and the hooks 7 prevent the necktie from displacement from the body 1, and said edges facilitate the formation of the necktie on the body. Furthermore, one of the hooks 7 is adapted to be employed to secure one end of the tie to the body 1 while applying the tie to the body. After the necktiehas been applied to the body 1, the holder and necktie are secured to the person by engaging he upper end of the attaching element 6 with the front collar button.
It should be understood that the drawing is merely illustrative and does not pretend to give exact proportions. Furthermore, the said drawing is illustrative of a preferred construction, it being my expectation that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
What is claimed is 1. A necktie holder comprising a body having a wide upper portion and provided with concave side and upper edges, the upper ends of the body being bent to provide'rearwardly disposed and inwardly directed hooks, and an attaching element pivoted to the lower end of the body.
2. A necktie holder comprising a body having a wide upper portion and provided with concave side and upper edges, the lower end of the body being bent to provide a rearwardly disposed loop and the upper ends thereof being bent to provide rearwardly disposed and inwardly directed hooks, and
a U-shaped attaching element having inturned end portions fitting in said loop.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
PETER VAN DYK.
