UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
INSULATOR.
Application filed March 11, 1922. Serial No. 542,947.
My invention is an insulator for electric wires constructed with means for effectively insulating its attaching screw from the wire and with means whereby the Wire may be 6 easily and effectively connected thereto.
Referring to the annexed drawing in which my invention is illustrated and which forms a part of this specification:
Figure 1 is an elevation of my insulator. Figure 2 is an elevation of my insulation taken at right angles to Figure 1.
My insulator comprises a cylindrical body 1 and a plug 2. In the upper end of the body 1 is a central socket 3 and said end 1s 15 formed with an upstanding shoulder at which extends a little over half way around the body and said socket, leaving a lower surface 5 forming the remaining portion of said end. In the inner upper edge of the 20 shoulder 4 is formed a rabbet 6. The surface 5 lies below the bottom of the rabbet 6. The body 1 is also provided with a central longitudinal bore 7 communicating with the socket 3. The plug 2 comprises a cylindri- 25 cal shank 8 which fits in the socket 3 and a head 9 and has a central longitudinal bore 10 extending therethrough, which aligns with the bore 7. A screw 11 extends through the bores 10 and 7 for attaching the 50 insulator, the head of the screw being countersunk in the'upper surface of the plug head 9.
The wire is wound around the plug shank 8 under the head 9 and is disposed in the rabbet 6. One end of the wire is extended under the other end, and both ends project over the surface 5 and clear of the shoulder 4. The wire is clamped between the rabbet 6 and the plug head 9 by the screw 11 which draws the plug shank 8 into the socket 3 when the insulator is secured by said screw in position on a support such as a telephone pole arm. The screw pulls the head 9 into abutting engagement with the shoulder 4.
Having described my invention, I claim:
An insulator comprising a body provided with a cylindrical socket extending from the top thereof and terminating above the bottom thereof, an upstanding shoulder formed on the upper end of said body and extending a little way over half way around the same, said shoulder having a rabbet in its upper inner edge, the remainder of the circumference of the said cylindrical body being cut away so as to form a lower surface below the bottom of said rabbet, a plug comprising a head and a cylindrical shank, said cylindrical shank being adapted to be inserted within the socket, said head being adapted to hold a wire within said rabbet, and within said cutaway portion, said plug and body being provided with a central longitudinal bore and means adapted to pass thru said bore whereby the insulator may be secured to a support.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WOODVVARD J. MARTINEZ.
