Description

F. P. KOBERT. INSULATOR SUPPORT. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 211 1913.

%1 his 6111mm iii.
ins- COMPANY,
TZhlSULATOB-S'UPPORT.
To (1. 711]! (m1 is 2210 c it known L is, l we: 1?. ROBERT, a citizen of the Un thates, and residing at New llaren, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented curtain new and useful Improvements in l sulatouf upports, of which the following a specification, such \swill-enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to makeand use tl nine.
This inventi 1 relates to insulating attaching devices for telephone, telegraph and electric wires, and particularly to devices (it this c ass used in connection with the cross arms or telegraph and other poles, and the object thereof is to provide a devicecf this class Tuned for use in connection with cross arms already provided with large vertical bores or passages through which are passed pins oi. wood or similar mate ial with which the insulating wire attaching devices are connected.
'lhe invent'ion is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reterencecharacters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view of an ordinary cross arm of the class employed in ci'innection with telegraph and similar poles provided with my improvementyl ig.
a sectional. side view looking in the direction of the arrow 2 of Fig. 1 i
In the drawing; forming part 0 this specification, l have shown at a. an ordinary cross arm similar to those cn'iployed atthe present time, in connection with telegraph, and other poles. The cross arm a is provided with large vertical bore or passage (4 usually about an inch or an inch and a quarter in diameter, and through'which is passed, according to the present custom, a
wooden pin or plug with which the tele-- graph or other wires are connected. In my improvement, however, I provide a triangular bracket Z) having a transverse base 6 adapted to fit transversely on the arm a, and having iuiiwardly directed and converging side members Z) brought together to form an eitcnded shank Zr with which, in practicc. is connected a wood or fibrous block 0 on which is mounted the ordinary insulator Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 21, 1913.

OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPO- Patented Sept. 15, 1914.
Serial No. 774,954.
(Z, with which, in practice, the electric wires are connected.
The bracket Iris preferably composed of sheet steel and the side members I) are corrugated or ribbed longitudinally to give strength thereto, and in the construction shown only the opposite sides of the shank 5* are threaded, and the wood or other block 0 is screwed thereonto, after which the insulator d is screwed onto the block 0, and for this purpose said block 0 and insulator (Z are threaded, as shown at e.
The separate side members I) of the bracket Z), when brought together to form the shank b, are welded or otherwise secured together at b", and the base 6 of the bracket 1) is provided with a central countersunk washer member Z) which fits in the top of the bore a inthe arm a, and I also provide a countersunk washer f which fits in the bottom of said bore, and passed centrally and downwardly through the countersunk portion 5 of the base 6 of the bracket b, and through the bore a and through the the arm a, and mounted on the lower end of the bolt 9 is a supplemental washerh and nut i. v
With this improvement, all the arms of telegraph and telephone poles, as now made, or having a bore a may be utilized to the fullest extent, without the use of wooden or other fibrous plugs to form an attachment for the insulators, as may also all other arms of said class or for said purposes, formed in a similar manner.
Having fully described my invm'tion what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 5- v 1. The herein described insulating bracke attachment for electric Wires designedfor prising a body portion having a base pro.- vided with a countersunk member adapted to fit in the top of said bore, a countersunk bore, and a bolt passed through the top countersunk member in the base of the bracket attachment and through said bore and the bottom countersunk washer.
The, combination with a cross arm havuse in connection with a cross arm having, a large vertical bore, said attachment comwasher adapt-ed to fit in the bottom of said ing a vertical bore of an insulating bracket sunk member in the base of the bracket and through the bottom Washer, and by which the attachment is secured to said arm.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witness s this 19th day of June 1913.
