The cylinder 1 is provided with a hose coupling 2 at its rear end and its forward end is provided with a member 4, the interior surface of which is flared or conically enlarged as shown at 5. The member 16 is provided with a series of helical grooves 19 curving in the opposite direction from that of the grooves and these grooves 19 extend into the neck piece beyond the flar ing portion or end piece 1 of the casing as shown at 19. The portions 19'" of the groove constitute continuations of the buckets 19 and they are progressively shallower V as they approach the headpiece, whereby the water following these grooves is delivered outwardly in the direction 0]": the blades 20 and their shanks 21 which are secured to the headpiece 17. The blades operate to cut material from the sewer wall, as described in said former patent. The extension of the grooves 19 along the neck piece tends to confine the water to the grooves while it is being deflected outwardly and therefore the water is delivered to the blades in the form of separate jets, one for each groove. This avoids dissipatingthe force of the stream,
or streams, by reason of air resistance andthe spreading of the water into a conical sheet, as is the case in the structure disclosed in said former patent. These forcible jets of water are much more effective to carry away the fragments of material instead of In said former structure, the forward.

In the improved construction the shaft collar 13 is provided with a cylindrical portion 13 which encircles the bearings and is preferably provided with an inturned flange 13 which extends into close proximity with the hub upon the end of which the cone 26 is formed, thereby retaining the bearing balls 27.
In all other particulars the structure of the improved sewer cleaner may be assumed to correspond with that disclosed in said former patent and further description thereof is deemed unnecessary I claim 2- 1. In a sewer cleaner, the combination with a rotary blade carrying head, of a driving turbine having curved bucket cavities, and a spreader connecting the turbine with the head and having grooves which are continuations of the bucket cavities along an outwardly curving surface, said spreader grooves being adapted to direct the power water in the direction of the blades carried by the head. In a sewer cleaner, the combination with a head having radial blades, of a water motor operatively connected to drive the head, and a grooved spreader interposed between the turbine and the head and provided with grooves having progressively out curving walls, adapted to direct jets of power water from the turbine toward the blades.

5. Ina turbine sewer cleaner, a rotor including a bucket grooved turbine at one end. an exposed head at the other end provided with cutting blades, and an intermediate portion provided with jet directing helical channels, the bottom walls of which also curve outwardly from the axis of the rotor.
