STOVEIIPE SECTION.

This invention relates in general to stovepipes or similar structures, and has for its object to provide a stove pipe section which has one end locked against expansion and the other end portion locked against contraction, and yet is of simple and durable construction, reliable, effective and positive in operation and easy and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention reside in certain novel features of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, reterence being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this application and in which Figure 1 is a View in elevation showing portions of stove pipe sections constructed in accordance with the present invention;

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates the sections of a stove-pipe, only portions of which are shown. The sections are of identical construction and each is formed of a blank of resilient metal rolled to substantially cylindrical form and having its longitudinal edges united or joined in a manner which will be hereinafter fully described.
One end of each section is designed to be fitted in the adjacent end of the next sect-ion to provide a joint between the sections. The end of the pipe section which constitutes the inner member of each joint is formed with a spiral rib 11 terminating in a substantially annular rib 12. This rib 11 is threaded into a similarly formed groove 13 in the end of the pipe section constituting the outer member of the joint, and the extreme end of this last-mentioned pipe section is designed toabut the rib 12 in the assembly.
The inner member of the joint is designated generally at 1 1, and the outer member of the joint is designated generally at 15. That half of the pipe section which includes the inner member 14 of the joint has its longitudinal edges so interlocked as to beheld positively against contraction, and for this purpose one longitudinal edge of the blank making up the pipe section is formed for half of its length with a doubled flange 16. This double flange 16 is integral with the metal of the blank and is bent back upon the blank and then bent back upon itself to provide an outwardly opening U-shaped seat or socket 17 designed to receive one half of the other edge of the blank which is designated at 18. Since the half of the pipe section which has its longitudinal edges united in the manner described constitutes the inner member of the joint it is necessary only to provide against contraction as the outer member of the'joint prevent-s expansion of the inner member.
That half of the pipe section which includes the outer member of the joint has its longitudinal edges united or interlocked so as to be held positively against expansion, and for this purpose one of the longitudinal edges of such halt section is formed with an inwardly bent flange 20 providing a seat or socket and the other longitudinal edge of such half section is formed with an outwardly bent flange 21 designed to snugly fit into the socket provided by the flange 2U.
l/Vith this arrangement the sections of the stove-pipe may be provided in the form or" substantially fiat sheets, as indicated in Figure 5; that is the pipe can be made in a knocked down form and maybe readily rolled or bent to int-erlockthe longitudinal edges in the manner described whereby a substantially cylindrical pipe section of extremely strong and durable construction is provided. The sections may be readily united to each otheror may be readily taken apart and when the sections are assembled with each otherthey are locked in every way and can not become accidentally detached.
