The recessed portions 78 are seated in the recessed portions 32 and 42 of the male member of the hinge.
A thimble shaped pintle is shown having the barrel 90 and the end flanges 91. The barrel 90 extends through the openings 33 and 43 of the male member of the hinge joint, and the flanges 91 are seated in the recessed portions 78 of the extensions '77 of the female member of the hinge joint, and thereby the male and female members of the hinge joint are adjustably connected to each other.
Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exemplification is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
Having described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim is:
1. In a hinge joint the combination of a male member, comprising a pair of similar side walls spaced from each other, an arcuate shaped flange at the lower portion of each of said walls, a prong extending from each flange, a top wall connecting said side walls, a cup shaped spacer extension integral with the lower portion of each of said walls, said cup shaped extensions being disposed one within the other, a female member of the hinge joint comprising a top wall, a pair of similar parallel side Walls spaced from each other extending from the latter top wall, an arcuate shaped flange at the lower portion of each of the latter side walls, a prong extending from each of the latter flanges, a disc shaped extension integral with each of the side walls of said female member, said disc shaped extensions straddling and bearing against the outer faces of the cup shaped spacer extensions of the male member, and a pintle uniting the disc shaped extensions of the female member and the cup shaped spacer extensions of the male member, the arcuate flanges of the members adapted to be seated in recesses of the sections of a folding rule, and the prongs adapted to be pressed into said sections.
2. In a hinge joint the combination of a male member, comprising a pair of similar side walls spaced from each other, a cup shaped spacer extension integral with the lower portion of each of said walls, said cup shaped extensions being disposed one within the other, a female member of the hinge joint comprising a pair of similar side walls spaced from each other, a disc shaped extension integral with each of the side walls of said female member, said disc shaped extensions straddling and bearing against the outer faces of the cup shaped spacer extensions of the male member, a pintle uniting the disc shaped extensions of the female member and means to fasten the walls of both said male and female members to a pair of the sections of a folding rule.
