Another object of my steel is to provide 10 a reinforcing at the bottom thereof, which will materially increase its useful life.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 indicates the body of my steel, which 20 may be formed in any desired shape. A
groove 2 is formed in the lower edge of the body 1, in which a reinforcing rod is cured. The rod 3 is formed of hard material such as tempered steel, to better resist the wearing action against the strings of the instrument.

Having described my invention, I claim:
A steel for stringed instruments, comprising a body having recesses formed in the sides thereof, cork layers in said recesses, said body having a groove formed in its lower edge, and a reinforcing rod fixedly secured in said groove.
