Description

Semsgis W. T. SHERER DISPLAY CASE `Filed June 20. 1925 Patented Sept. 28, 1926.
WILLIAM. T. SHERER, V0F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DISPLAY CASE.
Application led .Tune 20, 1925. Serial No 38,479.
My invention relates to an improvement in display cases, for example to a case ot the type wherein a plurality of .separate compartments are provided with slide gates positioned to the rear ot the casez ject of my invention is to provide a case into which access may be had into a plurality of such.compartments at thesame time. @ther objects will appear from time to time in the course ot the specication and claims.
I illustrate my invention more or less diagrammatically in the accompanying drawings wherein- Figure 1 is an elevation;
Figure 2 is a horizontal section; and
Figure 3 is a partial plan view of the bottom member ot the case.
Like parts are illustrated by like symbols throughout the spcciiication and drawings.
Referring to the drawings, A A1 are any suitable end panels or members, which may be provided, it desired, with glass or other translucent material.
B B1 and B1 are the transparent front panels of the case. n
C is any suitable base, and C1 any suitable top member.
The case is divided into a plurality of separate compartments, herein shown as three, tor example by the partitions D' and D1. Since it is preferred, in the use of my cases, `for example, for bakery purposes, to prevent the passage of air from one compartment to another, I may provide any suitable elting or packing D2 D1 at the inner ends of such compartments, in order to make a tight connection with doors below described. Any suitable material may be used. but Itind a relatively thinlayer or cushion ot felt to provide a suiiciently tight connection.
It will be noted that the end panels A A1 are of the same length, that the partition D1 is somewhat shorter than the end panels and that the partition D. is shorter than the panel D1.
E is a track extending from the end panel A to the partition D1 and riding upon them is the sliding gate E1. Its normal position tor closure is at the lett extremity of the track when it closes the compartment formed by the end panel A and the partition D. It is provided with a felting E2 at one end, and the telting E* at the other, to
One ob- A make a tight fitting closure. D2 is felting at the outer edge of the partition D.
G is a second track extending from the partition A to the partition D1 and upon it rides a similar sliding gate G1. Its range' ot excursion, like that ot the gate E1 is limited on one end by the end panel A and on the other by the partition D1. Its normal closing position, in the form herein shown, is at the right hand of the tracks G, abutting against the partition D1.- The telting G1 provides a tight closure.
I-I is an outer track extending between the end panels A and A1. II1 is a sliding gate travelling therealong which, when in closing position, closes the compartment between the end panel A1 and the partition D1. It may however be positioned in front otl either ot the other tvo compartments. The felting strips D3 and H3 provide proper closure or packing, to prevent a circulation of air into or out oi the compartment when the gate is in closing position.
Access may be had simultaneously to the two end compartments by sliding the gate H1 to the lett and the gate E1 to the right. Access may be had simultaneously to the middle compartment and the right compartment by sliding the gates H1 and G1 to the limit of their excursion to the left. Simultaneo-us access may be had to the central and the lett hand compartments by sliding the gate E1 to the right and G1 to the left, until the center of each gate is opposite the partition D. If the gate II1 is then moved t0 the lett and aligned with the other two gates, the right compartment is entirely opened and the center and the left hand compartments being halt opened, it is possible to have access to all the compartments at once.
It will be realized that whereas I have, illustrated a practical and operative device, nevertheless many changes may be made in the size, shape, number and disposition of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention. I wish my description and drawings to be taken, therefore, as in a broad sense diagrammatic or illustrative, rather than as limiting me to the specic showing herein made. In particular it will be realized that whereas I have illustrated a display case which is separated into a plurality of air tight compartments, I do not limit myself to such structure. Obviously my ar rangement of gates may be employed with a case Which is only partially so divided, or which has no partitions at all.
I claim:
l. vln a display case, end panels and intermediate partitions adapted to divide the case into a plurality of separate compartments, the partitions terminating at their rear edges Within the vertical plane bounded by the rear edges of the end panels, a. plurality of tracks and sliding gates, each gate being mounted upon and slidable along a separate track, one of said tracks extending from end to end ot the case and another ot them extending trom one end ot' the ease to one ot the partitions, the gates being constrained to lie in and slide along the plane ot' said tracks.
2. ln a display case, end panels and intermediate partitions adapted to divide the case into a plurality ot separate compartments, the partitions terminating Within the Vertical plane bounded by the rear edges ot the end panels, a plurality of sliding gate members and means for guiding them, tl'e paths ot said gate members being parallel but separate, one of said partitions terminating in such position as to permit the pi? sage ot all of said gates, the outer edge et another of said partitions being positioned to intercept and limit the movement ot others of said gate members.
In a display oase, end panels, and intermediate pai-tions adapted to divide the case into a plurality of separate compartments, the aartitions terminating Within the vertical plane bounded by the rear edges of the end panels, a plurality oit sliding gate members and means for guiding them, the paths ot said gate members being parallel but separate, one ot said partitions terminating in such position as to intercept the guiding means for two ot said gate members While permitting the passage oi a third, and another ot said partitions termin-ating in such position as to permit the passage ot' all oi' said gate members. Y
1l. ln a .display case, end panels, two intermediate partitions adapted to divide the case into ,three separate compartments, the partitions terminating Within the vertical plane bounded by the rear edges of the end panels, three sliding gate members and separate, parallel tracks therefor, one of said partitions terminating in such'position as to intercept the tivo inner tracks, the other said partitions terminating in such position as to permit the passage oit all three ot' said gate members.
Signed at Chicago, county of Cook and State oit illinois, this 16th day ot June, 1925. i
