Patented Sept. 14, 1926.
COMBINATIONJIILKIN G STOOL AN D FAIL HOLDER.
' Application filed.0ctober 30, 1925.. Serial No. 65,768..
This invention relates to a combination milking stool and pail holder and more par- .ticularly to a milking stool and pail holder which are so connected as tobe foldable one over the other.
The object of my invention is to provide a stool and pail holder which are attached to each other by certain links and pivots so as to be foldable into a compact form when not in use, whereby the same will occupy a minimum of space and therefore be easily transported.
A further object of my invention is to produce a combination milk stool and pail holder which comprises a minimum of parts that are easily assembled, thereby providing an article which is simple in construction and economical to manufacture.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows the device in its unfolded condition, the pail holder being in position to support a pail; V
Fig. 2 shows the device in a semi-folded position;
Fig. 3 shows the device in its fully folded condition; and
Fig. 4 shows a top plan view of the device when unfolded as in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, numeral 1 indicates the stool portion which comprises an upper seat portion 2, upper and lower supporting ring members 3, L and vertical members 5, 5. Iprefer to connect seat portlon 2 to the upper ring member 3 by a plurality of angle irons 6 attached respectively to the inner face of .ring 3 and the lower face of seat 2. Rings 3 and 4 are held spaced by said vertical members 5, 5. One of the vertical members 5 is twisted between its ends so that a substantial portion thereof lies in a plane extending radially from the vertical axis of the stool.
A pail holding ring or hoop 7 is supported upon said twisted member 5 by means of three links, 8, 9 and 10. Links 9 and 10 are similar and are pivotally connected as at 11 to opposite sides of ring and at their other ends-are pivotally connected at 12to vertical member 5. Link 8 is pivotally connected at one end to ring 7 at a point 13 nearest to stool portion 1 and is pivotally connected to member 5 by pivot 1 L. Said link 8 at its inner end 7 ber is provided with a detent 15 which cooperates with a notched locking pawlv 16 also piyoted to member 5. p
In operation, the combination stoolfand 'ully opened or unfolded as pail holder is shown in Figure 1 and in this position ring or hoop 7 is in proper position to en.- gage and hold a pail inserted from above and within said ring. A limited adjustment is provided for ring 7 by reason of the engagement of detent 15 with various notches in pawl 16. WVhen not inuse, ring 7 may be rotated in a counter-clockwise direction around pivots 11 and at the same time caused toqswing to a position above stool portion 1; It will be noted that while links 9 and 10 are moving counter-clockwise to a position within member 5, the outer end of link 8 at pivot 13 first moves downwardly or clockwise a short amount to allow ring 7 to rotate on pivots 11. This short clockwise .motion has been completed in Figure 2. Upon ring 7 to a position Where it telescopes over ring 3and seat 2 as shown in Figure 8, link 8 has moved counter-clockwise to its folded position as shown in this figure.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is I 1. A stool comprising a seat portion and a supporting portion, ring, links pivotally engag ng said stool and said pail supporting ring, the pivotal points of said links being so located that said ring maybe folded to surround said seat portion. i
2. A stool comprising a seat portion and supporting member, a pail supporting ring, a pair of link members pivoted at one end to said supporting member and at their other ends at points on opposite sides of said ring, and a third link pivoted at one end to said supporting member and at the other end to said ring at a point intermediate said first mentioned points the pivotal points of said links on said supporting membeing so located that said ring may be a pail supporting further swinging of folded upwardly and over said seat portion.
3. A-combination stool'and pail support comprising a seat portion and a pail holding ring, a seat supporting member, a pair of links pivoted at one end at a point on said supporting member and being extended to pivotally engage said ring on opposite sides thereof, a third link pivoted at one end to said supporting member at a point above said first mentioned point and at its opposite end to said ring intermediate the pivot points of said first mentioned links whereby said ring may be folded to surround said seat portion.
4. A stool comprising a seat portion and a supporting leg portioina pail supporting ring, link members pivotally connected to said leg portion and said ring, one of said link members being extended beyond its pivotal point With said leg portion, a detent on said extended end, and means on said leg portion for engaging said detent to hold said ring in adjusted positions.
5. A stool comprising upper and lower ring members a seat member associated with said upper ring member, a series of vertical members connecting said ring members, a pail supporting ring, links pivotally connecting said supporting ring and one of said vertical members, the pivotal points of said links being so located on said last named vertical member that said support ing ring may be folded over said seat portion. 7
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
