Description

Aug. 31 1926.
C. COOMER TOOL Filed Feb. 15, 1926 Patented Aug. 31, 1926.
UNITED STATES CLA'lI TDE GOOMER, BILLING-S, MONTANA."
TOOL.
Application filed February 13, 1926. Serial No. 88,072.
The object is the provision of a tool in the nature of a band wrench which is especially adaptable for use in removing the clamping rings for automobile headlight lenses, jar-covers and the like, and which is adjustable and of a 'construction'wherebya positive grip between the tool and the article engaged thereby is insuredi To the attainment of the foregoing the invention consists inthe improvement as here'- inafter described and definitely claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view illustratifig the active position of the improvement.
Figure 2 is a perspective viewof one end of the improvement.
Figure 3 is a similar view ofthe other end of the improvement.
The body member of my improvement comprises a band 1 of any suitable tough flexible material which is woven to provide a roughened active face. Riveted or otherwise secured on the outer face at one end of the band there is a plate 2 whose outer end 2 is bifurcated and the arms thus provided are rounded to provide eyes 3 between which there is received and pivoted, as at 4., one end of a lever 5. Pivotally secured to the lever, at a suitable distance from the pivot 4 there is the bifurcated end arm 7 that is formed with a laterally extending end 8. The member 7 is thus substantially T-shaped. Riveted or otherwise secured on the outer face of a second end of the band 1 there is a metal .plate. 9. The sides of this plate 9 are slitted inwardly and longitudinally at 6 of a curved spaced intervals 9, and metal bounded by the slits is bent to provide pairs of oppositely arranged substantially 'U-shaped jaws 10. 49 As disclosed by Figure 1 of the drawings the band 1 is arranged around the clamping rim of an automobile headlight lens, and the lever 5 is swung to permit of the lateral head 8-of the T-shaped member 7 being received in any of the aligning pairs of jaws 10, the shank 7 being arranged between said jaws. A pull on the lever will force the ends of the split band toward each other, thus tightly compressing the band around 50 the rim, and a further movement of the lever in the same direction will cause the tool to turn the rim and remove the same from the headlamp. It is obvious that the tool may be successfully employed in applying or removing other devices from their supports," such for instance, as jar covers and the like.
Having described the invention I claim A band tool, comprising a split ,bandof woven material, a plate fixed on one end of the band, a lever pivoted to the plate, a T- shaped element ha-ving a bifurcated shank which is pivoted to the lever, a plate fixed on the second end of the band and havin inwardly directed and longitudinal slits disposed opposite each other and the metal bounded thereby being bent to provide opposite pairs of U-shaped jaws for the reception of the head of the T-shaped element therein and the shank of the .said element therebetween.
I In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
. CLAUDE COOMER.
