NANCY A. PORTER, OF WARREN, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SLATE-FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,839, dated February 16, 1875 application filed January 14, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NANCY A. PORTER, of Warren, Trumbull county, State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Frame for Slates; and declare the following to be such a full, clear, and exact description vthereof as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this speciication.
My invention relates to an improvement in slate-frames; and consists in a novel means whereby the slate-frame can be mufied, so that the article can be used without noise.
In the drawing, Figure l presents in plan a view of the slate Witha frame embodying my invention, and showing a portion of the frame muffled, and a portion of it before it is mufiied. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of same.
A is a slate; B, its frame. C are holes made through the frame at regular intervals, and extended clear around the slate. D is a cor- It is lapped over both sides of the frame, as indicated, and is then sewed to it by passing the stitches F through the holes G and drawing the cord tight into the corrugations D, so that the stitching will lie below the general surface of the cloth, or its equivalent, upon the frame.
I propose to make the frame as indicated, whereby it can be used as an ordinary slateframe Without muffling 5 or, if desired, the mufing can be readily attached.
I also propose to manufacture the slate complete with the muffling attached.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The slate-frame B, provided with perforations O and corrugationsl-I), substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination, with the slate-frame B, provided With the perforations C and corrugations D, of the inufing material E, in the manner substantially as set forth.
