DANIEL EARL sEowALrEE,
or ERANKEORT, KENTUCKY.
REMINDERk Application led January 9, 1926. Serial No. 80,263.
y My invention relates to improvements in kdevices commonly known as reminders and adapted particularly for household use to indicate the condition ofk stocks or supplies of various household commodities so that the person who has charge of the purchasing of such commodities Willhave a reminder Whe'nfhe glances at the device that the suppliesof certain commodities require replenishing. f, J .The invention consistsu inthe combinations, constructions and arrangements herein described and claimed. n An object'of the invention is the provision of an indicating device of the character described which is simple in construction andat the same time includes indicating means adapted to be adjusted with relatively great easeto indicate that a relatively great "o number of acts or any one of such acts shouldk be performed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description, considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in` which Figure 1 isa face View of an indicating device embodying the invention, and
Figure 2 is an edger view of the device. The improved indicating device comprises i a supporting member or body 1A which is shown as being a plate of light gauge and made ofany suitable material, such as cardboard, fiber, metal or the like. kThe plate 1 k preferably is formedk with a raised relatively narrow marginal portion or bead 2 on its front face, the'outer edge of this bead preferably being beveled so as to produce a marginal flange 3 Which tapers in thickness towards its outer edge. Also, the plate 1 preferably is rectangular .in configuration. The plate 1 has a longitudinally extending or vertical guide slQt 4 produced therein to extend substantially along the longitudinal axial line of the plate 1 for Lnearly the full length ofthe rplate 1. The slot 4 is merged at.its upper end into a transverseopening 5 whichk is of greater area kthan the Width of the slot and is adapted Hfor the reception of a cylindrical' eyelet orsleeve 6.4 yThe eyelet or sleeve 6 has aflange 7 at its lfront end `forlimiting the/ axial movement ofthe sleeve in the' openingj yina rearward direction.. andthe sleeve 6 preferably has'a relatively tight fit with the wall of the opening i5 seY that .it normally' will remain in positiony in the opening 5 but can be dis placed from the opening 5 in a forward direction When desired for a purpose to be presently stated.
The slot 4 is formed at intervals for part of its length With yarplurality of. pairs of oppositelyextending lateral branches 8, each of which is relatively short and is approximately as Wide as the slot 4 except that the outer lend of the branch is vwidened slightly by providing an -arcuatelyy curved notchor seat 9 in thebottom IWall of the branch.y The uppermost pai'rvof branches 8 preferably is located adjacentI to the `juncture-of the slot 4 with the opening 5 and the lowermost pair of-branches is located at a considerable distance above the lower end o:t` the slot 4. Y f
y The invention contemplates the kprovision of aplurality of markers orfindicating elements', each of which is freely movable along slots 4 to and from position to rest in the seat 9 at vthe outer end of anyY one of the branches 8 of the slot. AThese markers or'indicating elements are shown as being buttons, each of which has a shank 10 of.V greater length than the thickness` of the slotted portionof the plate l and heads 11 at opposite ends of the shank 10, the heads 11 being of greater diameter than the Width of the slot 4 but of slightly less diameter than the opening 5. f
From thel foregoing description-of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood'- The provision of the vertical slot 4 and the branches 8 substantially intermediate the side edges of the plate 1 assures adequate, space at each of the opposite sides of the series of pairs of branches 8 for the production of suitable indicia on the face of the plate in association VWith ythe adjacent branches8 of thel guide slot." F orv example, each branch 8 of the guide slot may be identiiied by the name of a particular ar.- ticle or householdcommodity which is produ'ced on the facezof thej plate l substantially in line with that' particular ,branch 8 of the slot and of 'course at theouterend of saidvbrancli.Nv The markers are'moved throughithe opening into thel 'guide slot 4, the 'sleeve 6 having first beenvremoved from thev opening 5f The ..slianks' of the markers willfslide ,ir'rleelyinther guldeslot and these marker's'may be disposed insuperposed relation in the lower end portion or" the guide slot below the lowermost branches S. fitter the markers have been placed in the guide slot d, the cylindrical member (i is again placed in the opening 5 and serves as a stop t'or preventing displacement ot any one ot the markers from the slot lat the upper end of said slot.
in use, a marker is moved upwardly along the guide slot l and into the branch S whicl indicates a particular article or commodity which is to be purchased. it is obvious that the names ot various acts which require performance may be produced on the 'lace ot the plate l in association with the branches 8 instead of names of household commodities or articles ot toed. The shanks ot the markers will rest in the seats 9 when the markers are at the outer ends ot the branches 8 olf the slot and are not likely t be dislodged accidentally from positions at the outer ends of the branches 8 when the plate l is tilted slightly in any direction or is vibrated.
The portions ot the 'tace oit the plate l. at opposite sides ot the lower end portion ot the slot l may have any suitable designs, indicia, advertising matter or the like produced thereon, such as the ornamental designs indicated at l2 in Figure l. The tubular member Gin the opening 5 may accommodate a nail or like supporting element, not shown, tor the support oi the device.
Obviously', the invention is susceptible o't embodiment in 'liori other than that which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings and which has been described in the 'toregoing specification, and l therefore consider as my own all such modiiieations and adaptations thereotl as fairly iall within the scope ot the appended claims.
l claim l. Bin indicating device of the character described comprising a body or" light gauge material having a vertical slot Yformed therein, said slot having a plurality ot vertically spaced lateral branches, and a marker movable along the slot to and from position to enter any one ot' said lateral branches, said body having indicia produced thereon adjacent to each branch.
2. in indicating device olE the character described comprising a plate having a vertical slot formed therein extending longitudinally ot the plate, said slot having pairs of laterally' extending branches and being merged at its upper end into a transverse opening through the plate, and a marker movable through said transverse opening to and from position to enter and slidably engage with said slot, said marker being movable along the slot into and from any one ot said branches.

Avn indicating device oit the character described Comprising a plate having a vertical slot extending substantially along the longitudinal axial line ot' the plate. said slot being merged at its upper end into a transverse opening through the plate, said slot having pairs ot oppositely extending lateral branches, and markers adapted to be moved through said transverse opening to and from said slot and being movable along the slot and into and from said branches, each ol said markers comprising a shank adapted to slide in said slot, and heads a't opposite ends of said shank and each ot greater diameter than the width of said slot, at least one of said heads being of less diameter than said transverse opening in the plate, and a stop member adapted to be removably disposed in said transverse opening to prevent return movement of said marker from said slot into said transverse opening, said stop member comprising a. tubular body fitting in the transverse opening and having a flange at its front end of greater diameter than said transverse opening, said tubular sto member being adapted to slip over a nai or like elongated supporting member, whereby said plate may be suspended from said supporting member.
6. An indicating device of the character described comprising a plate having a vertical slot formed therein, said slot having pairs of lateral branches, said plate having a marginal bead on its outer face and hav- 10 ing a tiange at its marginal edge, the lowerllower end most of said pairs of branches being located at a considerable distance above the lower end of said slot, indicia on the face of said plate in association with said branches and markers movable along said slot to and from said lateral branches, the surface of the face of said plate at opposite sides of the portion of said slot being adapted to have other indicia produced thereon.
