CLIP FOR FOUNTAIN EENS AND THE LIKE.
Application led April 13 1926.
Y My invention relates to clips for fountain pens, pencils, and the like, and the object of my invention is to produce a clip, which at all times will immovably stay in place on the part of the pen or pencil to which it is attached and will be effectively prevented from gradually working loose and thereby become ineffective as a clip. To this end, 1 make my clip of two separate parts, a clamping member and a resilient member constituting the clip proper' and being rigidly secured to said flexible clamping member being made of U- shape, has two prong-like portions, which, wien the clip is applied, for instance, to a fountain pen cap, extend through an opening or through slots provided in the wall of said capV into the same and then are bent in opposite directions so as to lie flat against the inner wall of the cap, while the middle portion of the clamping member to which the resilient clip member is secured bears against the outside wall of the cap. A sleeve introduced into the cap covers the bent-over prong portions of the clamp.
For a full understanding of my invention, 1 refer to the appended drawing, in which 1 have shown one embodiment of my invention by way of illustration, and in which Fig. 1 shows the clip as seen from the side, while Figs. 2 and 3 show said clip attached to a fountain pen cap, Fig. 3 being a slight modification of Fig. 2.
The clip shown by itself in Fig. 1 consi'sts of a rectangular or Ushaped flexible clamp 1 comprising the prong-like portions 2, 3 and the middle portion Zl. To the latter is riveted, or otherwise rigidly secured, at the two places 5 and 6 the resilient clipmember T which constitutes the clip proper.

shown at 8 in Figs. 2 and 3, the prong-like portions 2, 3 of clamp 1 are vpassed either through a common opening or recess 9 in the wall of cap 8 (see Fig. 2), or they are 45 passed through separate slots 10, 11 provided in the Wall of cap 8. rEhereupon the inwardly projecting' ends of the flexible prong-like portions 2, 3 are bent over in opposite directions so as to lie flat against the inner wall of the cap, whereby the entire For greater security, an inner sleeve 12 of suitable material is introduced into the cap exactly fitting the same, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and 55 thereby any tendency of the bent-over prong-like portions 2, 3 of clamp 1 to pull out or become dislodged, is effectively prevented. As the resilient clip-member 7 is rigidly secured to the middle portion t of 60 clamp 1, being riveted thereto at two places, the clip-member 7 will thus be immovably retained in position effectively resisting any strains adapted to loosen the clip-member and thereby destroy its function. Viliile I havek described and shown my l new clip in great detail, 1 do not, of course, limit myself to the exact construction as herein disclosed, but claim as my invention:
1n combination with the cap of a. pen having spaced openings in its wall, a clip comprisingv a U-shaped flexible clamp, projections upon said clamp adapted to extend through said openings into said cap and to be bent against the inner wall thereof, a re.- 75 silient member riveted to the central portion of said clamp by two spaced rivets so that the desired flexibility is secured throughout the clamp and resilient member. In testimony whereof 1 aliix my signature.
ABRAHAM i. Bourne.
