This invention relates to certain improvements in cork extractors and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this character embodying means whereby a cork may be withdrawn in a manner substantially eliminating the liability of the bottle neck breaking or snapping off as now often occurs in connection with extractors of the type now generally employed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind operating upon rotation of a part toeffect the desired extraction or withdrawal of a cork.
The invention consists in the details of if) construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved cork extractor whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and 11 otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein I Figure 1 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation illustrating a cork extractor constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;

As disclose-d in the accompanying drawings, my improved extractor comprises a tubular member 1 having its peripheral wall with the internal threads 2 and the external threads 3, said threads being reversely related with the outer threads 3 left hand. Rigidly secured to the outer end of the member 1 is the handle 4;. The member 1 has threaded thereon a bell like member 5 the open flared end portion of which being adapted, in practice, to have direct contact with the outer .50 end of the neck end of a bottle, said flared outer end permitting the device to be employed with facility in connection with bottle necks of various sizes.
A pair of elongated blades 6 are adapted to be inserted within the neck N at opposite sides of the applied cork C, said elongated blades being slightly curved in cross section to conform to the curvature of the neck and cork and are also provided with the inwardly disposed prongs 7 adapted to penetrate or impinge the cork to assure an effective grip ping action of said blades 6 upon the cork C. The inner end portion of each of these blades 6 is secured by the small screws 8 or the like to the outer end portion of a spring arm 9.
These arms 9 are in outward or downward diverging relation and are arcuate in cross section with their opposite end portions connected to provide substantially a cylindrical head 10. The head 10 and the arms 9 are provided with the peripheral threads 11 so that. the same may be engaged within the member 1 whereby, during a working operation, as the member 1 is rotated the arms J will move upwardly of the member 1 and at the same time contract said arms 9 to cause the blades 6 to have effective gripping action upon the cork G and move the same out of the neck N. During this operation it is to be understood that the flared end of thebell like member 5 will have direct contact with the neck N. It is to be understood that initially the blades 6 are inserted in the neck N between the wall of said neck and the cork and the member 5 is sufficiently turned by hand until it has requisite contact with the outer end of the neck. As the threads 2 and 3 are reversely related it will also be understood that as the member 1 is turned or rotated to extract the cork, the efficiency of the member 5 is not impaired.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a cork extractor constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
