FLOWER-DISPLAY RACK.
. Application filed September 17, 1925. Serial No. 56,964.
This invention relates to a flowerdisplay rack, designed primarily for use in connec-. tion with caskets, but it is to be understood that a display rack, in accordance with this invention, can be employed for any purposes for which it is found applicable, and the invention has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a rack for displaying flowers from the open lid of a casket in an effective and secure manner.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a flower display rack for the purpose referred to, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, adjustable,'thoroughly efficient in its use, conveniently installed with respect to the lid of the casket, quickly assembled and disassembled, and inexpensive to manufacture.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a perspective view looking to the rear of a display rack, in accordance with this invention, and showing the adaptation thereof with respect to the lid of a casket, the lid being broken away. 7
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the device.
Figure 3 is a rear elevation of the device.
Figure 4 is an end view showing the adaptation thereof with respect to the casket lid.
A display rack, in accordance with this invention, comprises an intermediate and a pair of end supporting members and which are referred to generally by the reference characters 1, 2 and 3 respectively. The intermediate member 1 comprises a tubular body portion 4 of substantial length and which is rectangular in cross section. Connected to the body portion 4, at .the front edge thereof, is a right angularly disposed arm 5, which projects forwardly with respect to the member 1 and has a depending flange 6 at its forward terminus adapted to engage the inner face of the casket lid 7 The arm 5 seats on the longitudinal edge 8 of the lid 7 when the latter is in raised or open position. The arm 5. further projects rearwardlyfromthe lid 7 when the latter'is raised or in open position. Formed integral with the rear edge of the body portion 4 is a vertically disposed depending arm 9, having the lower terminal portion thereof bent to extend at an outward inclination, as
at 10, and which carries a clamping screw 11. The arms 5 and 9 are braced by an inclined brace piece 12, which extends from the arm 5, forwardly ofthe body portion 4 and depends below the latter. 7.
Slidably mounted in the body portion 4, to provide for adjusting the length of the display rack, are the end members 2, 3. The said end members 2, 3 are oppositely disposed with respect to each other and extend into opposite ends of the body. portion 4. As each of the members is of the same construction but one will be described, as the description of one will apply to the other. Eachof said end members consists of a'flat bar 13 of substantial length and which is rectangular in cross section and of a width and thickness to snugly engage the inner face of the body portion 4, but theengagement is such as to permit of the shifting of the bar relative to the body portion 4. The bar 13, atits outer end, is connected to a forwardly extending arm 14, provided-with a depending flange 15 at the forward terminal thereof and which is positioned with respect to thecasket lid 7 in the same manner as the flange 6. Depending from the 7 arm 4, at the rear end thereof, is a vertically disposed arm 16, having the lower terminal portion thereof bent at an outward inclination, as at17, and extending through said portion 17 is a clamping screw 18. The arms 14 and 16 are connected together by an inclinedbrace piece 19, which is secured'to the arm 14 forwardly of the bar 13 and to the arm 16 below the bar 13. The arm 14' pro jects rearwardly from the lid 7.
The bars 13, as well as thebody portion 4, are positioned by the arms 5, 14 a substantial distance from the lid 7 to provide a space 20, into which is extended the stems of the flowers, or the lower portion of a floral design, as indicated at 21, Figure 4.
The clamping screws 11 and 18, in connection with the flanges 6 and 15, detachably clamp the display rack to the lid 7 when the latter is raised or opened. The position of the rackwith respect to-thelidis clearly shown in Figure 4.
The rack provides means for not only displaying flowers in an eiiective manner, but also for securely holding them in position atubnlar body portionya pair'ofarms integral therewith intermediate the ends there of and disposed atright angles to each other, a" pair" of'endi'members slidably engaging with said body portionto provide for the lengthwise adjusting" thereof relatively to each other, a pair of arms integral with the outer end' of each of said members and disposed at right angles to each other, one of the'arms'of each of said pairs projecting forwardly andthe other depending With respect to said body portion and members, and thearms of each pair provided with means for clamping the body portion and end members'in position for display purposes.
2.' A display rack for flowers comprising a tubularbody portion, a pair of arms integral therewith intermediate the ends thereof and disposedat right angles to each other, a pair of end members slidably engaging with said body portion to provide for the lengthwise adjusting 'thereof relatively to each other, a'pair of arms integral with the outer end of each of said members and disposed at right angles to each other, one of the arms of each of said pairs projecting forwardly and the other'depending with respect to said body portion and members, and said forwardly vextending arms having depending flangesand said depending armscarrying hold fast devices, said flanges and devices providing means for clamping the body portion and endmembers in position for display purposes.
- 3. A display rack for flowers comprising a tubular body'portion, a pairof arms infor display;
ing'with respect'to 'said body portion and members, and said forwardly extending arms-having depending flanges at their free ends and said depending arms having outwardly inclined lower terminal portions provided with holdfast devices, said flanges and devices providing'means for clamping-the body :portion and end members in position 4. A flower display rack-comprising an intermediate and-aipair of supporting ele-' ments, said elements slidably engaging with each other to provide for the lengthwise adjustment thereof relative to each other, a forwardly extending arm integral with each of said elements and formed witha depend ing flange, an arm integral with and dc pending from each of said elements, said depending arms disposed at right angles to said forwardly extending arms, and means carriedby said depending-arms and coacting with said flanges for clamping said elements in position for display.
5. A flower display rack comprisingan intermediate and a pair of supporting ele merits, said elements slidably engaging with each other to provide for the lengthwise adjustment thereof relative to each other, a forwardly extending arm integral with each of said elements and-formed with a depending flange, an arm integral with and depending from each of said elements, said depending arms disposed at right angles to said forwardly extending arms, means carriedbyi-said'depending arms and co'acti-n'g with said flanges for clamping said elements in position for display, and an inclined brace piece between each forwardly extending arm and a depending arm, said brace pieces integralwith said arms. 1
