This invention relates-to fountain pens, and more particularly to the cap therefor.'
An important object is to provide a fountain pen cap having novel means whereby to protect the nib of the pen during the filling thereof.
Further, an important object is to provide a. fountain pen cap which is similar in we t-erior appearance to the usual fountain pen cap and which may be operatedjust as conveniently.
A further object is to provide a fountain pen cap of the class described which is of highly simplified construction, durable in use and cheap to manufacture.

Figure 1 is a group perspectiveof the improved cap applied.

Figure 3 is a group view of the cap applied the outer section of the cap being shown in section.
Figure 4 is a perspective of the inner section of the cap.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 generally designates a pen stock having the usual bulb pressing device 6 by means of which the air is expelled from the ink containing bulb when it is desired to fill the pen, all of which is old and well-known.
The invention resides in the particular 'means for protecting the n1b 7 durlng the filling of the pen and tothis end I provide a cap consisting of inner and outer associated sections 8 and 9, the inner section having its rear portion enlarged to provide an attaching rim 10. As illustrated in Figure 2, the annular attaching member 10 is interiorly .crew threaded for engagement with the threads 11 on the forward portion of the pen stock. The rear portion of the annular attaching member 10 tapers to allne and flatly contacts with the reduced intermediate portion of the pen stock whereby to provide a smooth connection between the cap thepee stock. The annular attaching means whereby the same may be member 10 is knurled so as to provide a manually applied or removed.
The inner section 8 is as illustrated in Figure 3, exteriorly screw threaded as indicated at 12 immediately in advance of the annular attaching member 10 whereby to n'ovide a means for connection with the outer cap. The outer section 9.is interiorly screw threaded as indicated at 16 for eligagement with the exterior screw threads 11 and attention is directed to the fact that the screw threads 12 and 16 are opposite to those betw en the penstock and the attaching portion 10. In other words the screw threads between the inner and outer sections may be left hand while right hand screw threads are provided between the attaching portion 10 and the pen stock.
It will be seen that the rotation of the cap to the right'securely fastens the inner section to the pen stock and at the same time removes the outer section from engagement with the inner section thereby exposing the inner section.
Also, a turn to the left will remove the cap in its entirety. For attaching the cap as an entirety it is gripping the annular attaching portion 16.
ihe forward portion of the inner section 8 is provided with oppositely arranged transversely curved protecting lugs 20 which terminate inadvance of the. nib 7 and thereby protect the nib when inserted in a shallow receptacle for the permitting the pen to be tilled. Therefore, the nib is effectively protected and the life of the same is consequently increased.
' As illustrated in Figures 2 and 3, one end of the section 9 is closed and is provided with an annular member 26 which flatly con tacts with the forward end of the pen stool: so as to hold the cap firmly in position. Also, the annular member 26 co-operates with the outer section 9 in forming an annular recess for the reception of the lugs 20.
I claim 1. A fountain pen cap comprising inner and outer sections having screw threads whereby the same may be detachably connected, the rear portion of the inner section being enlarged to provide a stop shoulder and an annular attaching portion, the at taching portion being provided with interior screw'threads opposite to the screw threads between the inner and outer sections,
and a nib protecting lug carried by the forward portion of the inner section, said shoulder constituting-a'means to limit the endwise movement cit-said outer section on said inner section. V

A fountain pen cap comprising inner and outer sections having screw threads whereby the same may be detachably connected, the rear portion of the inner section beingenlargcd to provide a stop shoulder and an annular attaching portion, the attaching portion being provided with interior screw threads opposite to the screw threads between the inner and outer sections, and a pair of oppositely arranged forwardly extending transversely curved lugs formed on the forward end of said inner section and constituting nib protecting members- 8. The construction set forth in claim 2. said outer cap being provided at one end with an inwardly extending annular pen engaging member constituting an annular recess for the reception of said lugs In testimony whereof l have aliixed my signature.
