exert the maximum holding-or gripping ac-` This invenion relates to an improved cOn-' tion on the stud o f the opposite member, the l struction yof separable cuff button, and has for its object to provide a cufi' button of this characterY which comprises cooperating stock, the socket member piece of sheet ring in its inner head into carrying a spring which the stud portion of the stud memberv stuc and socket members, each formed of a single diameter of the stud member being nearly that of its' inner head flange and is shaped to snap into and be gripped by said enlarge ring; and thefollowing lis a detailed descriptionA of invention and showing oneconstruction of the present enbodimentof my'A cuff buttonm'einbers' by`which these advantageous results may be accomplished. Y
Nith reference to the drawings,.10-desig nates the stud member of my improvedseparable cuff button, the same k 65 is snapped to releasably hold thel button l members together.,
lVit-.h these and other 'objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully dehaving a shan i scribed, and particularly pointed out in the P'OltOIl 1l Witll an enlarged flange' 12 appended claims. formed at the Outerhead portion thereof, ln the accompanying drawings, thefg` and this flange is herein shown as having ures herein illustrated are greatly enlarged its edge 13A turned over that of the outer over their actual Size, vhead-plate 14; which in'this case is repre- Figui'e 1 is sectionalk side elevation shovv-A sented asa plate of pearl. This stud meming the two members of the cuff buttoncon bei" is provided with an enlarged inner hea neeted, portion'115 having extending therefrom a Figure Qyis a Side elevation of the Seelet projection Orstud portion 16. which stud member being partially broken laway and portion is provided with an annularly showing the members separated. f grooved neck portionvl'?, the stud portion be- Figure 3 shows one 0f the blanks ing of a diameter nearly hat of the inner head portion 15.
stud member. l
Figure Ll shows the blank a little further rhis stud member is preferably drawn from sheet stock first into the form illusdeveloped with the stud portion provide n trated in Figure 3, then into the form ilwith a recessed neck.
Figure 5 is the first lustrated in Figure il., and finally into member. finished form,` as illustrated in Figure 1. Figure 6 shows the same as rShe socket member 18 is also formed from duced shank portion. sheet stock first 'into the short flange tube Figure 7 is a section on line 7-7 of Figshown in Figure 5, then into the shape ure 1, showing the split ring as held in the Sli-own in Figure 6, with its shank portion socket member to engage the neck portion reduced and finally into the shape illustrated in Figure 1 of the stud member. l
Figure S is a view The outer end 19 of this socket member tached. is flanged and its edge Q0 is herein shown as being rolled over that of the finished .llt is found in the practical construction n of cuff buttons of this character, of advan head plate 21 which in this particular ease is shown as being a plate of pearl but any tage to form each o the members of the button with inner and outer heads and to form suitable finished head may be employed in each of these members from a single piece either of the butt-On members with the edge of sheet stock; 'also to provide an annular of one rolled over that of the other to conrecess in the neck portion of the stud and a nect the two parts together.
split ring in the annular recess in the inner The inner head portion 2 2 of this socket head of the socket member. This annular member is recessed on its inner surface as recessis formed in the inner wall of the at 23, forming a beaded edge and the inner to receive a surface of the bead forming an annular re,
head is of the maximum size l relatively large ring which isy provided with cess in whiclia split ring Q4 is set and the the maximum flexibility and is adapted to edge .25 of this head is rolled or turned in- 30 blank of the socket having a reof the split ring de- Wardly over this ring to retain operative position therein.
By this construction, it will be yobserved that the split or gripping ring is of a size nearly that of the inner head of the member hich it is attached and the gripping surface serves as an effective retaining means when engaging the corresponding groove 17 in the neck of the stud member. hus by this construction, I have provided a button having stud and socket members, the stud portion of which and to be engaged of a correspondingly larger it, and th stud porti-ons serve to firmly hold the tivo button members against accidental separation and also spring ring which has the maximum amount of flexibility.
M y improved .sep-arable button is entremeit loosely in owing to the fact- .that each of the members is formed from a single piece of sheet stock drawn and swaged into the desired shape and the extended surfaces of the gripping ring and of the receiving groove of .the neck portion cooperate to provide button members having great holding power and -being adapted to be snapped together and disconnected With just the proper amount of resistance.
The foregoing description solely towards the construction limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim:
l. A separable culi button comprising stud and socket members, each having inner ing a stud portion projecting from its inner head with a annularly-grooved neck portion, sai-d socket member having a stud-receiving opening in its inner head, the inner Wall of said head being provided With an annular recess, a spring ring loosely mounted in said recess and the stock at the edge of said opening' being turned to hold it in place, said ring lgage said neck said button members together.
2. A Vseparable culiq button comprising stud and socket members, each having similar sized inner and outer heads, and each formed of a single piece of sheet stock, said socket memben having a stud-receiving opening 1n slightly ture.
