Be it known that I, FLORIS Goupmrr, a citizen of the Republic ofFrance, residing at Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Snap-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification. v
The present invention relates to snap fasteners; and it comprises, brieiy, an improved device of the general character specified, which may be cheaply manufactured yand readily manipulated, and which will serve to rigidly hold together the parts to l which it is applied.
According to the lnvention, the improved fastener consists of two members which are exact counterparts of each other, instead of the differently-shaped male and female mem ybers ordinarily employed; and-each oflthese members is provided, in turn, with a pair of specially constructed parts for F co action more usually the case,
with those of the other member, so that a double snap interlock.A is thereby Vproduced which holds the members together with suficient tenactity to completely preclude their accidental disengagement. By virtue ot such construction, it is possible to construct both members of the fastener with the same dies or other machinery, instead of requiring separate dies for each member, as is l so that the cost of production is very considerably reduced.

As previously stated, the fastener of the present invention consists of two separate members or devices which are exact counterparts of each other. Each of these members is constructed ont thin sheet metal, or other suitable sheet material of resilient character, and in the form illustrated, comprises a. plate a, mented and which is secured in any suit able manner to the fabric or -other strip whereon the fastener is to be used.. as to provide at one end a tongue b, which is rolled back upon itself to form a tubular bead, of substantially cylindrical or other suitable shade, and at the other end a y likewise rolled back, the edges b and c of the parts b and c being free. The said parts b and c are disposed parallel with each other, and they may, of course, have any desired length, depending upon the character'and size of the particular article to which the fastener 1sto be attached.
ln use, the two members of the fastener are arranged upon the parts to be connected in'such a way that when said members are pressed face to face against each other, the bead b of each member will snap into -the lip c of the other member, owing to the fact that the bead is more nearly closed than the lip, and will be gripped thereby andv held against displacement, so that the members may be considered, in a sense, as reversed with respect to each other. The .formation of thelips and beads of resilient material, and the factthat their respective edges and 0f are left free, enable them to yield slightly during the coupling action, after which they tend to assume their normalpositions, -so that a double spring-interlock or grip is thus provided, as will be understood. The disengagement of the two members may likewise be readily effected, owing to the resilience of the locking parts and c, by merely pressing or pulling the outer member away from the inner member.
