. .This invention relates to certain improvements in battery fillers and it is an ob ect of the invention to provide a device of th1s general character comprising a cap adapted to be applied over the neck of a bottle or kindred container and which is provided.
with an elongated discharge spout and with a vent, the closing of the vent stopping flow through the spout.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind preferably formed of molded rubber and WhlCh can be readily applied or removed as the occasions of practice may necessitate.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved battery filler whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less ex ensive and otherwise more convenient an advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. v
Thenovel features'of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in elevation illustrating a battery filler constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in applied position with the coacting receptacle in pouring adjustment; to Figure 2 is a view in elevation of the device as herein disclosed applied but in an upright position;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken through the device as illustrated in Figure 2 4o unapplied.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, my improved device comprises a cap C of molded rubber adapted to be applied over the neck N of a bottle or kindred receptacle containing distilled water and extending outwardly from the peripheral portion of the outer closed end 1 of the ca C is an elongated spout 2 integral with t e cap C. This spout 2 has its bore 3 continued by the bore 0 a; nipple 5 extendin within the upper portion of the cap C, t e inner or free end of said nipple being closed and said nipple immediately adjacent to its free or closed end being provided with an openin or port '6 facing t e open end of the cap Diametricallyopposed 'to the spout 2, the closed end 1. of the capC isprovidedtherethrough with a vent opening 7 which is also continued through anoutstanding boss 8 inte rally formed with said end 1.
he cap C 'mmediately adjacent to its closed end 1 is provided with an internal continuous flange 9 and extending entirely around the side wall 10 of the cap C so that said portion of the cap is strengthened and at the same time providing a shoulder for contact with the outer edge of the neck N whereby to prevent the cap from being forced too far downward upon the neck of the bottle.
In practice, the cap C is applied to the neck N of a bottle or kindred receptacle containing distilled water and in filling a bat-- tery the forefinger of the hand grasping the bottle or receptacle is placed upon the boss 8 closing the vent 7 and thereby stopping flow through the spout 2 and particularly when the bottle or other rece tacle is inpouring position and thus rea ily permitting the spout 2 being moved from one battery cell to another without s illing water over the battery. By lifting the finger from the boss 8 requisite flow will be had through the spout 2 to effect the desired filling of the battery cell.
I claim 1. As an article of manufacture, a hollow bottle cap of flexible resilient rubber having a closed end and a side wall, said cap being adapted to be ap lied over the neck of a water-containing ottle, a spout integral with the cap and extending outwardl from the cap, and the closed end of the cap aving an outstandin boss formed with a vent passing to the interior of the bottle.
2. As an article of manufacture, a battery filling device com risin a hollow cap of flexible resilient ru ber ormed'to provide a closed end and a side wall and adapted to be applied over the neck of a water-containing receptacle, the cap being formed with a spout extending outwardl at an inclination to the longitud nal axis 0 the cap and from the marginal portion of the closed end and in communication with the interior of the ca said closed end of the cap being provi ed with a boss upon the end face thereof and with a vent extending through this boss to the interior of the cap, the cap being rovided with an internal shoulder exten ing around the side wall of the cap immediately adjacent the closed end thereof, the inner wall of the shoulder being1 disposed exte filling device comprising a cap of flexible resilient rubber formed to rovide a closed end and a side wall and a apted to be applied over the neck of a water-containing receptacle, the cap bein formed with a spout extending outwardly mm the marginal portion of the closedend and in communication with the interior of the cap, said closed end 15 nipple extending within t e cap and pro- 0 vided with an admission opening directed away from the vent.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
ANDREW J. BERRIEN.
