This invention relates to improvements in article carrying cases or bags.

The primary object of this invention is the provision of an article carrying case or bag which is adapted to carry relatively heavy loads, and which includes a novel arrangement of parts to best support the load and reinforce the same, whereby excessive wear will not take place upon any particular part, and the oase may ably support the load without distorting the neat appearance of the same.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a novel form of case 'which is particularly well adapted for carrying tools and the like, embodying a novel handle construction to effectively support the load from the bottom of the case.

A further object of this invention is the provision of novel closure means for hand bags, which will permit easy access to the contents of the bag, and best retain the bag in its natural shape. v

Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the following` detailed description.

Referring to the construction of the article carrying or body portion 10, the same includes front and rear walls 15 and 16 respectively; a bottom wall 18; andend walls 19. It is preferred that the front and rear walls and bottom wall be of one piece construction, and the end walls 19 are stitched to the marginal edges of the front, rear7 and bottom walls. but from the bottom wall, and the bottom wall of the case is prevented from buckling incident to the support ot this load by means of the transverse reinforcing member 80, thus insuring that the bottom will always keep its shape, and in contra-distinction to the ordinary case. The handles and 75 always have a deiinite relation with respect to the case, and the lugs i5 ot the closure member are novel for definitely locating the handle 75. These lugs i5 may be suitably covered by means of portions of the inner and outer t'olds or liningsl and 928, which may be glued to the lugs or guard portions 45.

Various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement oi' parts may be made to the torni of the invention herein shown and described without departing irom the spirit of this invention or the scope of the claims.

l claim zl. ln a case, the combination oif a carry ing portion providing a con'ipartment therein and including a bottom wall, transverse metal braces connected to the carrying portion at the inside surface over the bottom wall, and supporting means including a strap secured exteriorly about the bottom wall ot the carrying` portion and extending along the transverse braces so that support of the carrying portion and its load by said supporting` means may be ei'iected without buckling of the bottom wall.

A bag ot the class described comprising a carrying portion, a closure member hingedly connected at the side o't the carrying portion so that it may be swung laterally ot said side, handle means connected to the carrying portion, and means on said closire member for cooperation with the handle nieans to facilitate carrying of the bag.

11. ln an article carrying case, the combination ot a carrying portion including frontu and rear walls, and closure means tor the carrying portion including outer and inner Aflexible folds and a rigid channel member stitched between said folds, said folds being connected to the rear wall otI the carrying portion so that the closure means may hingedly swing laterally of the rear wall to entirely open the carrying member, thevupper portion of said carrying member adapted to be received within the groove oit said channel portion ot the closure means when the latter is shut.

5. ln a device ot the class described, the combination ci? a carrying portion including trout and rear walls, closure means hingedly connected to the rear wall including a rigid` section having outstruck spaced lugs thereon, a handle ot fixed character connected to the case at the rear wall thereof, and an adjustable handle connected to the case at the iront wall thereof, said adjustable handie adapted to be received by the lugs of the closure member when the latter is shut to properly position the adjustable handle with respect. to the iiXed handle.

6. ln a bag ot' the class described, the combination ot' a Flexible carrying portion including side walls, a bottom wall, and collapsible end walls, a closure for the carrying portion including a channel shaped rigid metal member open at the ends thereof and embedded between layers of a flexible material, said flexible material atone edge oit the channel extending outwardly theretrom and being secured at the outer. side to one ot said side walls to hingedly support the clo-` sure member whereby when the side walls ot the carrying portion are collapsed the closure member may be swung to enclose the upper portion ot the carrying portion, and a strap secured about the side walls and below the bottom wall and at its ends providing handles at opposite sides of the bag.

7. ln a case of the classdescribed the combination of a flexible carrying portion including elongated side walls, a bottom wall, and fluted collapsible and extensible end walls, said carrying portion upwardly thereoi providing an opening which may be increased and decreased by relative movement ot' the side v alls, an elongated channel shaped metal closure providing an clon-.-
