FORCE-FEED SYSTEM OF CONTINUOUSLY TREATING BOILER WATER.

This invention relates to improvements in a force feed system for continuously treating boiler water.
An object of this invention is to provide means for continuously delivering treatment to steam boilers while in operation.
In the drawing the single figure illustrates an elevational view in assembled form of the force feed device, with a part broken away.
Numerals l and 2 designate the steam and water supply lines leading into a mixing tank 5, having a cover 6, while 4 represents the mixing tube extending from supply lines 1 and 2.
The plunger pump 7 is supplied with a base plate 8, while numerals 9 and 10 designate links adjustably united by pivot 11 and serving to connect the pump 7 to the boiler feed pump. The packing gland for the pump is shown at 12, while 13 designates the discharge line connection from the treatment pump 7, and 14 the pump plunger.
The suction line to the treatment pump 7 is designated by the numeral 15, while 16 represents the check valve connection'to the pump, and 17 the vertical check valve on the discharge line to the boiler connection 19, while 20 designates the valvein said connection.
In operation the valve 3 on the suction to the pump 7 is closed, while the cover 6 is removed from the tank 5 and the chemicals put in the tank. Water is then let into the tank for mixing the chemicals through valve 2 to the desired height. Valve 2 is then closed and steam turned in through valve ,1. This thoroughly agitates and mixes the chemicals, and at the same time operates to fill. the tank with condensing water.
Supply steam and water valves are then closed, and valve 3 opened, thereby allowing liquid to be drawn or to flow through valve 3 and pipe 15 to plunger pump 7. through valve 16. The pump 7 being in operation by reason of having connecting rod 10 attached to the regular boiler feed pump B, will discharge or force the liquid through the vertical check valve 17 and pipe 19 to the point of delivery to the boiler A. It being understood thatrod 10 is connected to some moving part of the main boiler feed pump, the speed of the treatment pump depends on the speed of the boiler feed pump.
The stroke of the pump, for instance an Elgin treatment pump, is adjusted so that there will be a proper quantity of chemicalized water discharged to the boiler with the feed water to soften the boiler water, and change the solids from a solution to a suspension, or from asoluble to an insoluble form, in which condition they are carried with the boiler water by circulation through that portion of the Elgin system that precipitates and settles them in the precipitator where they can be blown out to the sewer, and the purified water will be returned back to the boiler free of any scale forming matter, and at any degree of hardness desired.
The above mixing tank is usually located in the engine room in close proximity to the boiler feed treatment pump.
Without in any manner departing from the spirit of this invention, the apparatus described and claimed herewith may be adapted to any suitable system for feeding treatment to boiler water.
What I claim is 1. The combination with a boiler structure having a feed pump provided with actuating means, and a supply line leading from said pump to the boiler, of a treatment mixing tank, means for moving the treatment from said tank,-aline connecting said means to the boiler, and means adjustably connecting said moving means to the pump operating means for actuating the former from the latter.
