UNITED STATES g 1,592,745 PATENT OFFICE.
EDOUARD PAQUETTE, OF BEAUHARNOIS, QUEBEC, CANADA.
FASTENER.
Application filed August 8, 1925.
The present invention pertains to a novel fastener designed for attachment to a fabric article of clothing such as stockings for example.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a fastener of the type i11- cluding a frame and a button insertable therein, further improved by a latch for looking the button against releasing itself from the frame.
In the accomplishment of this object the interior opening in the frame has a larger portion of sufficient size to permit entrance of the button and a smaller portion designed to accommodate the shank of the button, but too small to permit the.head of the button to pass therethrough. To the frame is pivoted a latch member adapted to extend across the smaller portion of the opening and thus lock the button when contained in this region. From the latch is extended a finger which carries a hook adapted to be locked against the frame, thereby retaining the latch in a positive manner.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following description and in the accompanying drawings in which;
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device in closed or locking position;
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is an elevation of the device in open position.
Reference to these views will now be made by use of like characters which are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout.
The device comprises a frame 1 preferably of metal, the interior of the frame having an enlarged portion 2 and a smaller portion 3 at the lower end thereof. From the enlarged portion extends a slot 8' for the purpose pointed out below. The frame is suitably hinged to a link 4 carried by a strap 5 which in turn is fastened to the body of the wearer in any convenient manner. A loop 6 of a fabric material is passed through the link 4:, and one lap of the loop also passes through a slot 7 cut in the top of the frame 1. In this manner the loop is positioned for the most part behind the frame 1 as clearly illustrated in Figure 2.
To the lower end of the loop is secured a button comprising a. relatively narrow shank 8 and a head 9. The larger portion 2 of the interior of the frame is of sufficient size to Serial No. 49,085.
permit entrance of the head 9. The smaller portion 3 is adapted to receive the shank 8 but is too small to permit the head to pass therethrough. In order to place the button within the frame, it is therefore necessary to pass the head 9 through the larger portion 2 and then move the button downwardly so that the shank 8 is received in the narrower portion 3.
At a point adjacent the narrower portion 3, a stud 10 is secured to the frame. To the stud is pivotally attached a latch member 11 adapted to extend across the smaller portion 3' of the frame interior in a line above the shank 8 when the button is disposed in the smaller portion. The latch is preferably made of wire which is extended upwardly as a curved finger 12 at the end'of which is formed a hook 13 lying at an angle to the finger. The hook is adapted for entrance in the slot 3, and a depression 14 is formed in the side of the frame adjacent the slot in order to permit the sliding of the hook before its entrance into the slot.
In the use of the device the fabric to be fastened is first engaged by the button in the usual manner, and the frame is placed on the opposite surface of the fabric and caused to contain the button in the manner already set forth. The finger 12 is now swung inwardly so that the latch 11 overlies the button and the hook 13 is locked in the slot 3. Consequently it is impossible for the button to work loose from the frame and thus release the. fabric intended to be fastened.
While a specific embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that various alterations in the details of construction mav be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as indicated by the appended claim.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A fastener comprising a frame formed with an interior opening and a slot extending therefrom, a button adapted for entrance in said opening, a latch pivoted to the frame and adapted to lock said button, a finger extending from the latch, and a hook carrieu bly said finger and adapted to lock in said s ot.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
ED OUARD PAQUETTE.
