IMPROVEMENT IN SLATE-WASHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,274, dated February 2,1875; application tiled October 16, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that We, LEVT L. LYMAN and EDWARD A. BOELL, of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented an Improved Device for Cleaning Slates, die.; and We do hereby de'- clare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, which will enahle those skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use our invention Without further invention or experiment, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters marked thereon, in Which- Figure lis a perspective view; Fig. 2, a side sectional elevation.
This invention consists of a Water-receptacle convenient for holding` with the hand, and having attached to one side of it a sponge. A valve provided with a spring opens inwardly, and permits the Water contained in the vessel to drop upon the slate when the valve-stem is pressed by the linger, after which the sponge is applied for cleaning7 as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the drawings, A is the Water-holder,
- which may be made in any suitable form for holding; readily. A plug or stopper, b, is inserted at one end, through which a hole is made for the valve-stem c. The valve d is conical in form, and is provided With a conical slot. One end of a spiral spring, e, is attached to the valve, and its opposite end is fixed to the plug, so that, by pressing upon the head f of the valve-stem c, the valve will open inwardly, and Water will be caused to drop from the receptacle upon the slate, and When the pressure is removed from the valve it Will be pressed home to its seat, and the ilow of Water will cease, after which the sponge gis brought into requisition for erasing the marks and cleaning the surface ofthe slate.'
Having thus described our invention, what We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The slate-Washer herein described, provided With independent water-chamber, the independent rubbing-surface, and the stopper b, provided with a spring-valve, as set forth.
2. The stopper b, having the valves c df and spring c, arranged as and for the purpose described.
