BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
lut-ented Feb. 10, .1' 914i.
Application filed November 12, 1912. Serial No. 730,984.
f/'o (1U Awlw/ny it may number/1:
le. it known that l, Cuantas W'. Lmsoo'r'r,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Jackson and State ot' ;\lichigan, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a specification, reference! being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to paint brushes, and an object thereof is the provision of a paint brush which may be removably secured to the cover of a can or the receptacle whereby the brush may be retained within the can when not in use, and the paint will be prevcnled'from reaching the handle when 1n use thereby keeping it clean.
)L further object of this invention, is the provisicn of a device of this character, in which the brush head and handle are removably secured to thc opposite faces of a can cover or a drip cup of any desired construction, whereby the size of the brush may be changed when desired, and only one handle is necessary for the several brushes.
A still further object of this invention is the combination of a can cover having an opening therein and a threaded pin disposed in said opening, with a brush head threaded upon one end of said pin, and a handle threaded upon the other end thereof.
lith these and other objects in View, my invention resides in the novel arrangements and constructions of part-s to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which` Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device partly in section, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a modified form of the device also partly in section, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a can cover of any desired construction and secured centrally thereof on one face is a plate 2 having a centrally disposed threaded pin 3. The plate 2 is soldered or otherwise secured to the central portion of one face of the cover, and secured to the opposite face thereof is a similar plate fl which is also provided with a centrally projecting pin 5. The cover 1 is provided with a forwardly extending peripheral flange 6, the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described.
The handle 7 which may be of any desired construction and material is threaded inl l l teriorly at its lower end as at 8 for engagement with the threaded pin 3 of the plate 2. The handle 7 is also provided o-n its lower end with an oif set lip or tooth 9 which is adapted to be can when the handle is removed, for, facilitating the removal of the cover. The bristles 10 are secured to a brush head 11 which also may be of any suitable construction, and the brush head l1 is provided with a-longitudinal ferrule- 12, which is interiorly threaded at its extremity as at 13 for engagement with the threaded pin 5 of the plate Ll.
In Fig. 2 of the drawing I have illustrated a modification of my device in which the cover 1 is provided with a central threaded opening 13 in which is disposed a threaded pin 14 the opposite ends of which project through either side of the cover. Nuts 15 are threaded on the opposite ends of the pin 14, and disposed on the -pin between the nuts and the surface of the cover are washers 16 which are adapted to form a tight closure for the opening 13 in the cover 1 and thereby prevent evaporation or leakage of the fluid contained within the can.
The operation of my device is as follows: 1n the practical use of the device as disclosed in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawing the brush head 11 is threaded upon the pin 4:, and the handle 7 upon the pin 3 whereupon the cover may be secured to the can. When it is desired to remove the cover the handle 7 may be removed and the claw 9 inserted between the cover and the can, whereupon the handle 7 may be moved as a lever thereby lifting or removing the cover from the can. After the cover has been removed, the handle 7 may again be connected with the pin 3, whereupon the brush is ready for use. in the usual manner. lt will be seen that the flange 6 on the cover will prevent any of the material which may drop from the bristles of the brush on to the cover, from dripping over the sides of the cover and thereby soiling the hand or the handle of the brush. ln Fig. 2 of the drawing, it will be seen that when my device is constructed in this manner, it may be secured to a can cover or ordinary metallic plate by simply punching a hole through the central portion of the cover or plate, and inserting the pin in the opening, whereupon the nuts 15 may be threaded upon the opposite end of the pin and Hush against the opposite faces of the cover engaged under the cover of thewhereupon the pin 14 will be held securely in position for the receptionv of the handle and the brush.
While the constructions accompanying drawing are the preferred forms of my device, it will be understood that minor changes in construction may be made, Without departing from the spirit of my invention, or sacrificing any of its advantages as determined by the scope` of the appended claim.
Having thus fully described my invention, what l claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: l
In combination with the cover of acari or other receptacle, said cover having a central vthreaded opening, a threaded pin disposed illustrated in the mesme in said o ening and projecting from the opposite aces of said cover, washersv disposed on the opposite ends of said pin to bear against the opposite faces of said cover, nuts threaded upon the opposite faces of said pin to bear against said washers there by .holding said pin in position, a handle .removably mounted on one end of said pin,
