I A, MUSTER ADJUSTABLE CLEANER FOR GUIDE EYES TEXTILE MACHINERY Filed A lfu 39, 1925- Patented July 13, 1926.
inserts-e TREDMUSTER, OF BERWICK, PENNSYLVANIA.
ADJUSTABLE CLEANER"FOR GUIDE EYES FOR TEXTILE MACHINERY.
Application med April 29, 1925. Serial m. 26,703.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustablecleaners for guide eyes used in connection with teatile machinery, the object being to provide a guide eye with a pair of adjustably mane ed cleaners so constructed that they can be i "their corners cut ofi or rounded and are proadjustedin respect to the guide slot of the guide eye so as t-O'IGHIOVG any dirt, waste or foreign matter adhering to the thread or yarn in its pass-age therethrough.
Another and further object of the invention is to provide the guide eye with cleaner plates which can be adjusted towards each other and interchanged so as to bring a new cleaning edge into position so as to operate on the thread or yarn so that the life of the cleaner plates is greatlyincreased, as each plate is provided with four cleaning edges, any one of which can be moved into position to operate on the thread in its: passage through the guide slot of the guide eye.
Another and further object of the inven tion is to provide a guide eye formed of a porcelain body having transversely arranged bores or openings through which are adapted to extend bolts or screws for securing the cleaner plates in adjusted position thereon, whereby the plates can be readily attached or detached.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
11 the drawings,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a guide eye showing the application of my improved construction of adjustable cleaners thereto;
Figure 2 is a top plan View;
Figure 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the cleaners detached. r
In the drawing 1 indicates a guide eye preferably formed of porcelain and substantially wedge-shaped in cross section having a longitudinal slot 2 in its upper edge-and a transverse guide slot 3 through which the thread is adapted to pass, the upper edges of the porcelain block forming the guide eye being inclined towards the slot as clearly shown. The forward edge of the porcelain block forming the guide eye is provided with a flange 4 and extending transversely through the block to each side of the guide slot 3 is an obliquely arranged bore 5 through which extend machine screws 6, on
beingconstructed identical in shape andthe description of one will be suflicient for both.
These plates are square in shape and have vided with openings 9 of a greater diameter than the diameter of the machine screws 6 so that these plates can be adjusted-towards and away from each other so as to form a proper clearance between the plates according to the size of thread passing through the guide eye.
Each of the machine screwsfi carry a lock washer l0 and a nut 11 for locking the plates in their adjusted position in respect to one another. These plates are adapted to rest on the flange 4 when in use as clearly shown so as to hold the side or adjacent edges of the plates parallel with one another.
When one of the cleaning edges of either of the plates becomes worn, by loosening the nut and removing the plate, the same can be placed back in position on the machine screws so as to place a new edge in position to operate on the thread and as these plates have four sides, the life of the cleaning plates is greatly increased by constructing the same in this particular manner.
In use the'thread, cord or yarn passing through the guide eye is thoroughly cleaned by the cleaning plates so as to remove any foreign matter therefrom and these plates form a stop for the thread, cord or yarn in case of an exceedingly large knot so that the large knot can be cut out formed.
This adjustable cleaner is especially adapted to be usedfor winder guide eyes, but, it
is, of course, understood that it can be used in connection with any other guide eyes and all places where cleaners are essential in textile machinery and in use the guide eye is mounted on the guide rail in any suitable manner so as to guide the thread, cord or yarn. p r I While I have shown certain details of construction, I am aware that various changes can be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
By forming the porcelain body of the guide eye with openings, I am able to attach the adjustable cleaner plates to the porcelain body in such a manner that it can be readand a new one ily attached or detached which provides a guide eye in Which the cleaner can be used in connection therewith when desired.
What I claim is 1. A guide eye for textile machinery having substantially square cleaner plat-es mounted on one face thereof, said plates being adjustable and changeable to present new cleaning edges for the thread passing therethrough.
2. A guide eye for textile machinery comprising a porcelain block having a transversely arranged guide groove and provided with a flange, a pair of substantially square plates mounted on said flange and adjustable in respect to each other and changeable to present new cleaning edges and means for locking said plates in adjusted position.
3. A guide eye for textile machinery com prising a wedge-shaped block having a transverse guide groove and provided with a horizontally disposed flange, bolts extending transversely through said block substantially square plates having openings of a larger diameter than said bolts arranged against one face of said block on said flange and lock washers and nuts for locking said plates in adjusted position in respect to one another.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
FRED MUSTER
