CERTIFICATE HOLDER.
Application filed July 30, 1925.
Another object is to provide a means ofV sealing the card and holder to a permanent part of the automobile.
A still further object isto provide a means of sealing the various elements together' without obscuring the card.
Other objects ofthe invention will appear from the following detailed description.
lith this invention the owner of a motor vehicle can comply with a law now existing` in some States requiring the owners of all motor vehicles to carry in a prominent place on the car a certificate of ownership. The law further requires that this certificate of ownership must be so attached that it cannot be removed without mutilation. By carrying a metal seal bearing the same number yas that on the certificate this invention curbs the transfer of the certificate of ownership because this certificate cannot be removed from its container without either' mutilating the certificate .or the seal.
rlhe form of the invention is shown in the accompanying' drawing,'oi" which Fig ure l is a plan view showing vthe several elements in assembled and sealed relation, while Figure 2 is a similar view showing the several parts unassembled. Figure 3 is a fragmentary cross section of an automobile dash board and the several elements of the invention illustrating the manner of attaching same toa vehicle. ln Figure l is shown the metal certificate holder (l) with the seal (2), the certificate (3), the transparent cover (5), and the slotted holes through the holder, the certificate and the transparent shield all partsbeing assembled.
In Figure 2 a view of the parts in unassembled relation is shown of which (l) is the metal holder, (2) is the certificate, (5) is the transparent shield. (2) is the seal which is threaded through the slots (t) in the holder and may be threaded through two corresponding slots in the instrument or dash board 6 of the car as shown in Figure 3 and finally sealed. This seal 3) can carry the name of the State, a number denoting a certain county in that State, the certificate number and a secret number or symbol belonging to the owner of the car. The printing on the certificate is no part of the pres- Seral No. 47,066.
ent invention. The invention of the seal it self is not claimed.
The holder' is supported by means of screws 7 passing through holes 8 in the holder, to the dash board or other permanent part of the car, and the certificate being sealed in place over the screw heads and under the forwardly bent down edges will be mutilated by any tampering whatsoever'l with the screws.
Having thus clearly de cribed my invention, I claim l. The combination with a permanent part of a vehicle of a. certificate holder, a certificate fitting therein, and means, including a slot in one element adapted to register with a slot in each of the other elements, to ribbon and seal said certificate and holder together and to the permanent part of the vehicle.
' 2. The combination with a vehicle7 of a certificate holder l aving turned down edges, a certificate fitting under said edges, and means including spaced registering slots in each element to ribbon and seal said certifiicate and holder together and to a perma nent part of the vehicle.
3. A certificate holder, a certificate held therein and bearing identification marks, means for sealing said holder to a part of a vehicle, including spaced. registering slots in each element, said sealing means being also provided with identification marks in duplicate of those on the certificate.
4f.. The combination with a vehicle of a certificate holder and means to fasten said holder to a permanent part of said vehicle, a. certificate fitting in said holder and over said fastening means, and means, including a slot in one element adapted to register with a slot in each of the other elements, to seal said certificate to the vehicle, arranged so that tampering with said fastening means will cause mutiliation of the certificate or seal.
A card or certicate holder having spaced slots adapted for registry with similarly spaced slots in a support, a card having identification data fitting in said holder, and having slots adapted to register with said first mentioned slots, and a metal seal bearing duplicate identification data, ribboned through all of said slots, whereby removal of any element will cause mutilation of the card, or seal.
