IMPROVEMENT IN EGG-HOLDERS.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an eggholder, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation,referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my egg-holder. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the clamp.

A represents the foot or stand of my eggholder, made of porcelain, Bohemian glass, or any other suitable material, and is composed of a base and an upward-projecting stem or shank. It may be made plain or ornamented in any desired manner, and it is made hollow, as shown in Fig. 2. The clamp or holder proper is cut or stamped out of sheet metal, and bent in proper shape to form the sheetmetal ring B, with upward-projecting springarms, 0 (J, and downward-projecting springarms, D D. The upper arms, 0, are formed at their upper ends with spear-shaped heads or jaws to a, and the lower ends of the lower arms, D, are bent outward, as shown at b b. A ring, (I, is slipped over the arms D, to surround thepart B of the clamp, to which it is soldered. The holder thus constructed is inserted into the upper end of the stand A down to the ring d, which forms a shoulder resting on the upper end of the stand. In the lower part of the clamp or holder thus inserted in the stand is inserted a slightly-tapering plug, G, which answers two important purposes.

The plug should be made of cork, rubber, or other suitable elastic material, and forms a cushion for the point of the egg to rest upon. It also acts as a wedge to spread the arms D D and hold them against the inner sides of the stand, and thus prevent the clamp or holder from coming out easily. The egg rests, as stated, on the upper end of the plugG, and is held by the jaws a of the spring-arms O O. The plug G is easily pushed out from underneath when it is desired to remove the clamp or holder from the stand for cleaning or other purposes.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The clamp or holder consisting of the part B, arms 0 G, with jaws a. a, and arms D 1), and the ring d, surrounding and fastened to the part B, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.

2. The combination of the hollow stand A, clamp or holder B O D, with exterior ring d, and the elastic plug Gr, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
