A pncati'onmeairm 28. 1925 Serial No. 46,603. i
This invention relates to a boatprovided with a well whereby persons cansee objects of water on which 'vention being to provide means for keeping the surface of the water in the well stillso as to prevent distortion of the vision by the effect of waves on the light rays.
'Another object of the invention rs to provide means for raising the above mentioned means oif'of the surface of the water; to enable such means to be cleaned and to'pre means from interfering 'with the said means are not being used.
Another object of the lnventionis to make the above mentioned means in the form of a frame having transparent plates therein with means. for arranging the .parts that air will be'expelled from under the parts as the frame enters the water, thus preventing bubbles from occurring under the'transparent parts, which would interfere with the vision.
This invention also consists in certain other features ofconstruction and in the combination andarrangement of the several 7 parts, to be hereinafter fnlly described, il-
5 harmed in the acco p drawings and? Specifically 'pointed' out in the appended claim. l V In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to, the accompanying a through drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which 2- Fi ure 1 is a transverse sectional view a boat provided with my 11117611131011, simllar View but showing Figure 2 is a the device in raised position. a v
.Figure 8 is a plan view'of the device.
Figure 4 is 'a detail view showing guidin'gmeans for the device, 1 1
Figure 5 is a detail sectional viewon line 5-5 of Figure 3.
In these views, 1
indicates the well formed in the hull of the boat 2 so that objects on the bottom ofjthe body of water in which the boat is' floating can-be observed by persons lined around the rail 3 which surrounds the well.
Vision of such objects is often distorted 1 by waves on the surface ofthe water in the order "to prevent these waves,-
well, and in I .providea frame 4, provided with transparent'plates 5, which fits, in the well and through the ports 6 edges of the frame. frame is so made waterand waterpannotv reach the upper rests upon the surface of 'the'wat er therein.
Thus the surface is'kept smooth and the observers can look through the transparent plates 5 and see the objects without distortion. The frame is so formedthat its botplates 5. slope upwardly that as the frame enters tom pieces and the from the center so the water air-under the frame will pass out- .wardlyfrom the sides thereof so thatthis air will not be trapped under the frame and cause airbubbleswhich would interfere with the vision of the observers.v Theair passes As will be seen, the that it will'fioat upon the surfaces'of 'thetranspar'ent plates. 7
I provide means for raising the frame. so
that the transparent members can be cleaned formed in the'lower' and so that the frame willnot'interfere. with the-movement of 'the boat through the water when said frame is not being used. Such meansmaybe of the drawings show tackles 7 After the'frame is'raised, strips any desired type, though the well known block and 8'may beplaced under the same and rest upon the railing 3, or any other suitable part of theboat, to relieve the. cables from the weight of the frame; means can Any suitable jections 10 on the walls of the well. 1
v The glassorltransparent' part in glass bottom boats now in use,-
breaking of the glass wouldin no wise endanger the boat. This transparent frame is onlyin the water when the bottom of the sea is being shown.
The drawing shows spaced apart to is inclosed by a cabin 13 which is constructed a boat as being built I with a pair of pontoons 12, these being r form the well and the well.
with the light excludingand ventilating No. 1,869,570, dated February 22,1921.
Y Itis thought from the foregoing description that the advantages. and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I parts, provided that such [means'shown andjdescribed in my Patentv Y may make changes in the construction. and in the; combinationandarrangement of the. several changes fall within: 1 j 'the s'cope' oftheappendedclaim.
