- P. SCHOLTISECK NAIL MAKING MACHINE Fil ay '2. 1925 M, 3 @MJM Patented July 6, 9 6;
PAUL SCHOLTISECK, or PINNEBERG, cERMAi'IY, assronon 'ro o'rrnusnnna DRAHT? INDUSTRIE G. M. B. IL, 01? ALTONA-OTTENSEN, GERMANY.
NAIL-MAKING MACHINE,
Application filed May 7, 1925, Serial No. 28,723, andinGermany'February 29, 1924.
My invention has reference to improve- I ments in machines for making nails or tacks,
and it relates more'specitically to machines of this character inwhich a blank in the form of a length of wire is fed to the several tools to be shaped into the finished article, and the particular object of the invention is to provide means whereby a plurality of wire blanks are operated upon simultaneous 1y, whereby the efficiency and the output of the machine is greatly enhanced over the .prior machines in which, as far 1 am aware, only one wire blank is operated upon at a time.
Although I have shown in the illustrated embodiment only two Wire working instrumentalities, it must be understood that I may use, obviously, more than two, the units being constructed and operating in the manner now to be described in detail in connection with the accompanying drawing, in whichelevation of the gripping blockjholder with the gripper blocks.
The complemental ripping blocks 6 are firmly clampable in t e-stationary machine head a. by means of the blocks 0 and the screws d. \According to my invention these blocks 6 are provided with a plurality of feed guides e for the introduction of the wire blanks f. As shown by way of example only two such guides, arranged spacedly one above the other are used here to illustrate the idea; but I may of course use more than two, and may also arrange the several guides alongside of one another. Immediately back? of the gripping block holder or head a are mounted the tool holders 9 which together with the cutting tools k can readily be displaced relative to the wire stock.
The tool holders 9 present for eachwire blank 7' a pair of tools'h, arrangedon opposite sides of the line of feed of each blank,-
able in said guideways, one or more set ting ends of the cutters project to sever the wires f, and they also open through the front faces of the holders 9, i. e., the faces thereof lying immediately in rear of the head a and gripping blocks 0. By this construction and mode of mounting the cutters lb, the cutters may not onlybe independently adjusted with greater ease and convenience, as may be required for securing a nicety of' adjustment after the cutters have-become more or less dulled, but the independent adjustment of each cutter avoids the necessityof setting or adjusting a plurality of cutters at a time, with known inconveniences and disadvantages. Furthermore, by providing guideways h, which open both through the working ends and faces of the cutter holders, the cutters may be mounted directly in the holder without the use of an auxiliary hold ing sleeve or other part, and machining of the cutter holders reduced to the minimum, so that the cost of construction of the cutter holders may be materially reduced. This construction further adapts the cutters to be either bodily slipped into the guideways from the front of each cutter head, or slipped in endwise from either end of a cutter head, as desired, and as may be found most convenient in the assemblage or disassemblage of the parts.
- The described arrangement not only enables several wire blanks to be operated upon at the same time, but the cutters also can be handled independently of each other for grinding and other purposes.
What I claim is v I In a wire nail making machine, the combination with a stationary machine member, and a pair of Wire gripping blocks carried by said member, said blocks presenting between them a plurality of wire feedguides disposed in different horizontal planes, of a cutting mechanism comprising a pair of suitably actuated tool holders each comprising an oblong'rectangular block each provided with a plurality of separate grooved guide- Ways formed directlytherein and equal in Working pairs, each ontter of each working number to the wire feed guides in the wire pair being independently adjustable in the gripping blocks, said guideways opening guideway in its holder block, and means for 10 through the front faces and at least the opindependently fastening each cutter in adposed ends of said tool holder blocks, cutjusted position.
ters mounted in said grooved guideways, the
cutters of the holders being arranged in PAUL SCHOLTISECK.
