Description

UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.-
SAMUEL CHARD, OF MIANUS, CONNECTICUT.
lMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-JACKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,079Qdated January 26, 1875; application filed December 12, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL GHARD, of Mianus, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in \Vagon-Jacks, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in the construction of wagorn jacks; and consists in a cramping band and pillar or stand, with a hoisting-lever having a fulcrum-pin and holding-hook, arranged substantially as described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the jack, showing it complete. Fig. 2 shows a portion of the pillar, having the cramping-band and holding-hook attached with a cross-section of the lever, the view being taken from the line out, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section looking down from the line 3 y of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
.A is the pillar or stand. B is the cramping- I band. 0 is the hoisting-lever. The band slides loosely on the stand, and is made with the two ends projecting, as seen at .D, and through these projecting ends the fulcrum-pin eis placed. -After the band and lever have been adjusted to the proper height the wagon-axle is made to bear on the end 0. The long end of the lever being depressed, the weight will be thrown upon the fulcrum-pin e, which will cramp the band .on the standA and prevent it from slipping. The lever is held in position by the hook I), which -is pivoted to the band and is turned over the lever, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3'. E represents the base of the stand.
This jack is so simple and easily made, is so light and durable, that it must recommend itself to all who are interested.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A cramping-band of a hoisting-jack,'with the holding-hook arranged as shown and described.
2. The combination of the band B, lever C, fulcrum-pin e, and hook b, with the stand A, for the purposes described.
SAMUEL CHARD.
