A. FREDETTE STRAINER CUP FOR VARNISH AND THE LIKE Filed August 15, 1925 INVENTOR A @[QETDE BY M 6 6.
ATTORNEYS Patented June 29, 1925.
UNITED STATES ALPHONSE FREDETTE,
OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
STRAINER CU]? FOR VARNISH AND THE LIKE.
Application filed August 15, 1925.
My invention relates to improvements in strainer cup for varnish and the like, and it consists in the combinations, construct1ons, and arrangements herein descrlbed and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described in which means is provided for wiping the varnish brush so as to remove excess varnish therefrom, and in which the excess varnish is passed through a strainer cloth back into the varnish cup.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described in which means'is provided for replacing the strainer cloth at will.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described in which that portion of the cup upon which the brush is wiped is in close proximity with the portion at which access to the fresh varnish is alfordedp A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described which is simple in construction, compact in form, and thoroughly practical commercially.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
My invention'is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of an embodiment of my invention, and
Figure 2 is a sectional view along the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
In carrying out my invention I make use of a substantially straight wall cup 1 having a handle 2 by means of which the cup is lifted about.
The cup 1 is provided with an outwardly inclined flared portion 8 by means of which a varnish brush, such as that indicated in dotted lines at 4, may be introduced to the cup 1 without engaging the side edges of the brush with the otherwise round walls of the cup.
A substantially semi circular tubular member 5 is provided having its outside d1- Serial No. 50,521.
ameter slightly less than the inside diameter of the cup 1. This member 5 has an outwardly extending flange 6 at the upper end thereof by means of which the strainer member is supported upon the cup in the manner shown in Figure 1.
A strainer cloth 7 is secured against displacement therefrom by a semi-circular bail 8. The forward wall 9 of the member 5 is inclined as shown in Figure 2 so as to more readily facilitate the introduction of the portion 4' to the varnish 10 in the cup 1 between the inner wall of the flared portion 3 and the wall 9 of the member 5.
From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. The proper quantity of varnish 10 is disposed within the cup 1 and the brush l is dipped in the varnish so as to properly load the brush. 7
The brush at is then moved across the upper edge 11 of the wall 9 as shown in dotted lines in Figure 2 and excess varnish is wiped therefrom which runs upon the cloth 7. The varnish passes through the cloth 7 and is strained of air bubbles and any foreign substance therein, whereupon it drips back into the cup 1.
lVhen itis desired to change the cloth 7,
it is merely necessary to lift the member 5 upwardly out of the cup,- remove the bail 8 which is frictionally held in place, by forcing it downwardly and change the cloth.
I claim: v
A. device of the character described comprising a cup having a flared wall portion, a handle for said cup a semi-circular tubular member removably mounted within said cup at the upper end thereof, said tubular member having a substantially flat tapering side wall adjacent to the flared portion of the cup, there being sufficient space between said side wall of said tubular member and the flared portion of the cup to permit the introduction of a brush thereto, a strainer cloth disposed across the lower end of said tubular member, and means for removably securing said strainer cloth to said tubular member, said means comprisinga semi-circular bail.
ALPHONSE FREDETTE.
