Description

' 1. NEIL.
" Chain-Pump Bucket.
NG.I59,037. 4 PatentedJan.26,.1875.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN NEIL, OE CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHAIN-PUMP BUCKETS.
Speciiication formin g part of Letters Patent N o. 159,037, dated January 26, 1875 application filed December 15, 1874.
To all/whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN NEIL, of Chicago, county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a Chain-Pump Bucket, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings which form a part thereof.
My invention .relates to that class of pumps which consists of an endless chain of buckets, which pass through a tube, into which the buckets closely' t, and thereby elevate the water as the buckets pass up in the tube.
My invention consists of the combination ot' the hook and iiange of the bucket-iron with the elastic disk, constructed as hereinafter fully described, whereby the disk is readily applied to the bucket-iron, and replaced when worn, and at the same time the endless chain of buckets can be readily disconnected for the purposes of lengthening or shortening, or to replace worn elastic disks.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a side elevation of the bucket-iron without the elastic disk Fig. 2, the side elevation of the bucket complete, showing a link Y used for connecting the buckets together. Fig.
3 represents a top View of the elastic disk detached from the bucket-iron.
A represents the hook at one end of the bucket-iron. The shape of the hook is such that the point of the hook rests upon the elastic disk, and the back of the hook forms a shoulder at B. G is a ange projecting from the body ot' the bucket-iron, forming a seat upon which the lat side of the elastic disk rests. D is an elastic disk of rubber or other similar material, having a Vertical hole, E, which makes a vent, connecting the chambers between the buckets. F is an eye, attached to the bucket-iron to receive the link which connects the buckets together. I-I represents such a link.
It will be observed that the link H can be removed from the hook A by compressing the elastic disk, and by so doing the chain or buckets can be taken apart, and when the link is removed from the hook A the elastic disk can be removed from the bucket-iron by pulling it over the hook A. In this way the disks can be renewed, and the pump repaired by almost any one who happens to use it.
Having described myinvention, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the hook A, flange C, and elastic disk D, in a chainpump bucket, substantially as described. l
