/..-"" JOHN BECKER AND W. D. HOFFMAN, OF SIGOURNEY, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN ELECTRO-THERAPEUTIC BATHS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,590, dated January 19, 1875; application filed August 3, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, JOHN BECKER and W. D. HoFFMAN,'of Sigourney, in the county-of Keokuk and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Vapor-Bath; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription of the same, referv ence being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a sectional elevation; Fig.2, a horizontal section.
The invention relates primarily to vaporbaths; and consists in novel means whereby electricity may be combined with the vapor,.
has a slot at the end, while 0 is a notched plate passing through these slots. On moving either of these up or down, their own, as well as the gravity of the sitter, will hold them at any adjustment which may be preferred. An ordinary battery is provided with positive and negative wires properly insulated, the one connecting with seat, and the other with foot-stool. D is a tube, attached to an evaporating dish, E, having lid 0 and nozzle D. The lid being thrown open, the vapor from E is delivered into the closet without reference to any particular portion of the patients body. F. G represent two sections of tubular rubber having the intermediate attachment H to connect battery-wires with an internal spiral coil, I, terminating at the up per extremity with screw J. This can be attached to tubular electrodes for the treatment of male and female diseases. The tube F G may be connected also to the nozzle D of the vaporizing-dish, the vapor of which is thus delivered 'at the same point as the current is applied. K are movable electrodes at the back and side of closet or cabinet, consisting of metallic disks 7c movable to any part of the person by perpendicular and lateral slides k with screws W, and connected with the battery-wires. This enables the concentration of a current on the thorax or abdomen.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new is 1. The tube G, provided with internal conductor and binding-screw, as and for thepurpose specified.
2. The doubly'adjustable electrodes K K in a bathing-closet, as and for the purpose set JOHN BECKER. w. 1). HOFFMAN.
