Figure 1 is a side elevation-cite; roof saddle and stack embodying the feature of my Figure 2, a longitudinal sectiion Figure 3, a section on the line 33 of Figure l, and' Figure 4, a detail perspective showing the manner of attaching the ventilator cap to the upper end of the stack.
The invention comprises a plate or body portion 10 having a flange about the same adapted to extend for a distance beneath the roof covering. An opening is formed in the body 10 and the metal is bent up at the sides to form flanges 11 and at the ends to form flanges 12. A pair of side members 13 are secured one at each side, to the flanges 11 and said members have their upstanding edges forming arcs of circles with the metal adjacent the curved edge bent outwardly at substantially right angles to the plane of the body and reversely bent to form opposed U-shaped grooves 14. A curved end member 15 is secured to one of the flanges 12, the ends of said end member being disposed in the grooves 14 and preferably of a width of substantially one-fourth: eiejie giii bat e arcuate] periphery. of the side member .18..
Similarly an. end member 16 is arm-heats the opposite, flange l2 and saideiid member preferably. extends ,for only about one sixth of theilenfg'th, oflthe arcuate, periphery of the side member 13., 7 v
A. hood 11 is, provided and the same is curved: to con-form to the arcuate edge of the side, members, while, at thev sides grooves 1'8 are formedlforhousing the U-shaped part of; y
the side membersf13. Saidhood is shorter length: than. the arciformed by the edge of the side members. to. permit, the. hood'to slide upon the sidemembersfor have curvilinear adjustment; An, opening; is provided in the. hood 11' nearer one end. and' f'a collar 13: is secured: in. said} opening for are ceiviiug; a: stack, 20; By m'eans of the fore; going structure, the. stack 2Q may be main taanedz in upright.positionfwhile the plate or body 10, may. be inclined to suit theinclina tion of thefroof upon which the device is,
used. Ingorder to secure the hood I? in. adjusted position-:1 preferably, secure a strap 21 at each; end. of? the-opening in :the plateil0' in} termedia-te the extremitiesof the end members 1-5; and; 16 and providea slot 22 iii the hood adjacent eachend for reception'offsaid straps. the hood is properly I adjnsted. the? straps: 21 may be .bent over as showntinl Eig ures la-nd2to secure-the hood against-further movement: a i
In order to prevent rain, snow and the like from entering the stack 20 I' provide'a cap 23 preferably of stampedmetal of substantially conical shape. 'A pair of depend-' ing legs 24 are provided for holding the cap in position. Each leg 24 is preferably provided with a transversely extending portion or shoulder 25 adapted to seat on the upper end of the stack and maintain the cap prop- I erly spaced from the stack. The stack is provided with parallel transversely disposed slits and the metal 25 between the slits desired manner as for example by spotwelding or the like.
It will "be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in my device without departing from the spirit of the invention and therefore I, do not limit myself to what isshown in the drawings and described in the specification but only as indicated-in the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to *securebyLetters Patent, is:
1'. The combination of a plate adapted to be secured on a roof, said plate having'an' opening therethrough and upwardly extending curvilinear portions at opposite ends of the opening, a hood mounted over said opening abutting said curvilinear portions and capable of curvilinear adjustment, said hood having aslot adjacent each end, and straps on said plate extending through said slots and bent over to hold the'hood in sealing engagement with the curvilinear portions, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of a plate'adapted to be secured on a roof, said plate having an opening therethrough and upwardly extending curvilinear portions at opposite ends of the opening, a hood mounted over said open ing abutting said curvilinear portions and capable of curvilinear adjustment, said hood and plate being'provided with a slot and strap connecting means at each end for holding the hood in'sealing engagementv with the curvilinear portion, substantially as set 4. The combination of apl hood abutting the curvilinear portions and capable of curvilinear adjustment, and
means for fastening, thehood in fixed rela tion, substantially as set forth.
te adapted to be secured over an, opening in a roof, said plate having an opening therethrough, upwardly extending .side portions having oppositely disposed arcuate U-shaped margins providing, opposed recesses, upwardly extending curvlhnear portions at 'oppos1te' ends of the opening having their ends dis? posed in said opposed recesses, av hood mounted over said {opening abutting said curvilinearportions-and capable of curvilinear adjustment, said hood having its extremities bent over and snugly engaging the marginal portions of the side members, and
means for securing said hood in fixed relation, substantially as set'forth.
5; The combinationof a plateadapted to be secured on aroof, said plate having'an opening therethrough, a hood mounted over said opening and having an upstandin'g stack said hood being adjustable to permit the plate to be adjustable to conform to the inclination of the roof, straps on the plate at each end of the opening therein, said hood having slots for the reception of said straps whereby they may be bent over to preventrelative movement between the plate and hood, astack on said hood having a pair of spaced slots in each'side, arcap, for said stack having a pair of legs provided with offset portions adapted to bear on the upper end of the stack and extend through said slots forisecuring the cap in position, sub
stantially as set forth. 7
In witnesswhereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Tipton, Indiana, this 14th dayof October, D. nineteen hundred and twenty-five.
