Description

UNITEID STATES PATENT OFFICE S. LEE TIBBALS, OF OSAKIS, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAVW-GUMMERS.
Specification formingr part of Letters Patent No. 158,756, dated January 12, 1875; application iled October 3, 1874'.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a side view ot' the machine, shown partly in section. Fig. 2 is a top view.
* Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the bed-piece. B is the. presser-bar, which is attached to the bed by a bolt, C. D
is the cutter. F is the cam-lever, and G the face, of the bed or the die. The central p0rtion of the bed is enlarged, or made strong and heavy, to enable it to stand the strain upon it. The cutter 0r punch D corresponds with the die in shape, and is made tapering from the cutting end. When placed on the saw, as seen in Fig. 1, it is given a smart blow with a hammer to drive it through the saw. The presser-bar B is made with a spring at the attached end, as seen at H, so that it will raise itself from the die. The presser-bar is perforated to receive the punch. I is a perforated guide, which is attached to the presser-bar.
The saw is placed on the face of the bed or die, as represented in the drawing, and the bar is brought down onto it and held in position by the cam-lever F. This' cam-lever is provided with journals, and engages with the slotted hook K, within which the end of the bar works. rlhis slotted hook is made a portion of', or is attached to, the bed-piece A.
L is a handle on the end of the presser-bar. The die and cutter, or punch, may be made in any form, or to suit any kind of saw, and the die may be made removable fromv the bed, s0 as to be changed as occasion may require.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire t0 secure by Letters Patent- The presser-bar B, having guide I and elastic portion H, combined with bed A, having die and punch D, as and for the purpose specif fied.
