Description

for NEW ron-k, N. fr.'
IMPRQVeMEn-r lm 'BLlNn-'sroesi spci'fiaeon f qrm'ipng part 0f Letters Patent No: Maese, dated January 121, 1865; tppnmion ined To all whom it may concern.:
Beit known that I, JAMES' DO EETY, 1 of N ew York, inthe county of -N ew v,York and AState of' New Yorkhave invented anew and Improved Attachment to Venetian Blind, of
jwhich't-heffollowing is a' 'specication: A v Figure 1 is afface View, partly in section, of
l part of a venetian blind containing,inyiin-V provement.' Fig. 2 isl an end view of the same C Y asit appears when 'the end plate is removed,v
one of'tbecranks placed 'on the slat-gudgeons.` imilar--letters of reference ,indicate corre-v isponding Paltsill all the figures.
A This invention' relates to new rmechanism'v for actuating the slatspf avenetianwindow-V blind;, and oon'sistsof'thepeculiar arrange-' ment'of parts hereinafter norefully described.
In the accompanying-drawing, the letter A represents theframeoffa window-blind. B B are the slats'of' the saine, hung by projecting gudgeons at their ends in vthe frame A. One,
side piece' of the frame isvv made hollow, for
f -the reception )fthe `vcranks (l 0,- that are mounted on the Slat-gudg'eons at one end of theslats. Every slat carries one such crank,
Cl asshownjin Figs. land '2. Thewrist-pins v a of these cranks'all enter-.or otherwise con-,
neet with a rodfD, that connects thus all the separate' cranks C, as shown. The upper end ot the ro D connects with a spring, .11), which has thetendency to draw the rod upward, and thereby open all :the slats of the blind; 'but the vcranks C may be ,placed at such an angle' lto-the slats that the spr-ing E will serve to i close the slats instead of opening'theln.- The drawing shows them to .be lso placed that the f spring will tend toppen the slats, as in Fig.- 2. .l By means of a wire or rod, b, the ro`dD"`concontracted to itsfull extent, l all opened, 'as in' Fig.
ing the buttons d and `Witnesses:
' s'eptemberis,1s74.
sired to 'more or less shut i the them together, itis only necessary to draw the button' d down, thereby drawing the rack F,
and with it the rod D,'farthe1 'down, swinging',.
by the movement ofthe rod,'the cranksUand `v slats B in the required. manner forclosing the slats together."` The Vspring-pawl e will lock the rackv in any positionv in which it Vis desiredv to retain the'same. A button,'f, extends from the' pawl e through the face of the frame A, and by tsmeans thespring-pawl can be pushed'out of the rack Ffwhenever it` A 1 is desired to liberate thespring E and reopen the slats lB-B. 'lhlls, by either touching. the,
Fknob d orthe button f, the position of the f slats can be regulated at will, andthe. same can be lockedliu any desired. position.
It is'evident that, if the lcranksarepnt at such an angle that the spring E will close the slats together, the downward movement ofthe v rack F will serve to open the slats.
V1n order to properlyfasten the castmet'al 'l f cranks Gon the usual wooden gudgeons of the slats, I prefer to formin wardly-projeetin g teeth g in the sockets of the cranks, so that such teeth, by entering thefsides of the gudgecus, may properly lock the cranks to the latter, further security being `obtained bythe fastening-screwszh, .that enter the gudgeons' through the sockets of the cranks, as-indicated by'dotted lines in Fig. 1. I claim as my invention- Y' I. The combination of the `Slat-'cranks C" with the rod D, spring E, sliding rack `F, 1 pawl e, and buttons d and f, all 'being-'con-Q cealed within the frameof the blind, except-` f, for. Operation substantiallyas described.
2. The crankV 0,'n1ade with the inwardlyprojecting tooth-g, combined with' the prov jected tenon of a blind-Slat, substantially as and for the purpose specified. v
