This invention relates to cuttingl instruments of the scissor or shear type and the primary object the invention is to provide a pair of scissors or like cutting instrument embodying novel means for mounting the cutting blades, so as to prevent wear thereon, and to permit the ready adjustment thereof relative to one another.
Another prime object of the present invention is the provision of novel independent bearings foreach cutting blade, and novel mea-ns' for permitting the separation of the cutting blades after the cutting operation, so asto preclude undue'nta-rv on the blades and to permit the convenient operation thereof.

'Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which drawings:

Referring to the drawings detail,
wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter A generally indicates the improved pair of scissors, which embody ings the biadesl() and 11 are normally arranged at au angle to the handles'- which insures the proper positioning of the cutting edges 15 of the blades relative to one another during the cutting operation. By this construction, it can also be seen that as the blades more to their fully closed position, the same will be separated from one another, thus 1preventing undue wear thereon and permitting the easy operation thereof. The relative positions of the blades 10 and 11 during the cutting operation can be readily seen by referring to Figures G and of the drawings.
In order to insure the easy manipula-tion of the blades l provide independentrbean ings for each blade and means for adjusting the blades relative to one another. The novel means for connecting the blades together and for mounting the blades comprises a screwY 2O embodying a relatively laroe 'dat head 21 and a threaded shank 22. It can be seen that the screw 2O is of the machine type. l'lhis screw is adapted to be received in a retaining member 25 which forms an important feature ,of this invention. The retaining member 25 embodies an enlarged disleshaped head 26, which is adapted to be received in a disk-.shaped re'- cess 27 formed in the inner face of the en` largement 111 of the blade 10. An axially disposed stud 27 is formed on the disk 26 and is provided with an axially disposed internally threaded socket 28 for receiving the shank 22 of the clamping .screw 20. It is to be also noted at this point that the shank 22 adjacent to the head 21 of the screw 2O is left plain so as to form a bearing for the blade 10. The outer surface of the stud 27 is provided with male threads 29 and the. stud is threaded into an internally threaded axially disposed recess 30 formed in the enlargement 14 on the cutting blade 11.
