IMPROVEMENT IN DRAWERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,423, dated January 5, 1875 application filed March 23, 1874. i

drawers working on supplementary and ex tension slides, which may be applied to a table, bureau, or other similar articles of household or office furniture where drawers are employed, and is an improvement on the drawing and writing table for which Letters Patent were granted to me dated February My invention consists in the employment of two su 'iplementary drawers, made to slide into and be contained in the main drawer, as hereinafter more fully set forth. My invention also consists in pivoting the lid used for writing purposes to the inner end of its frame, and providing the under surface of said lid with a looking-glass, all of which I will now proceed to describe.

To enable others skilled in the arts to which it appertains to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation with reference to the drawing, which represents a drawer made with the said improvements.

Figure l is a view of the drawer when in use as an easel, with all its parts extended for the accommodation of ag artist. Fig. 2 is a view of the drawer wlfen iii use as a writing-desk. Fig. 3 shows the position of the drawer when the looking-glass is thrown up for use.

The drawer A has a supplementary slide, B, on each side, that admits of its being drawn out its full depth, although it extends nearly the entire width of the table or other receptacle. Theframe of the desk surface or lid (J is hinged at the front of the drawer, that its inclination may be altered to any required degree, either by resting 011 the edge of bringing into position the looking-glass 0,

that is fitted into its under side. The end or supplementary drawer g has a drawer, H, working on extension-slides from its side, and the end or supplementary drawer '6 has a shallow tray, K, carried on the arms L, that are pivoted at the end within the drawer, so that as the arms are swung over and into the drawer the tray may also be placed within it by the sliding of pins on each side of the tray in the grooves or slots in the arms. By these pins and slots the tray is held steadily when extended. The end or supplementary drawers G and I are opposite and in the same plane; but by arranging the slides of g, as at m, on the lower parts of the sides of the drawer, and that of i on the upper parts, as at a, both drawers may work on extension-slides without interference with one another.

I claim as my invention, and desire to se cure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with the drawer A, of

the frame'm and adjustable lid 0, pivoted at f, and provided with a looking-glass, O, on its under surface, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.

2. The supplementary drawers G, H, and I, having extension-slides and swinging tray K, in combination with the drawer A, provided with the inner hinged and adjustable lid 0, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
