IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR FILLING BAGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,306, dated December 39, 1874; application filed May 23, 1574.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JUNIOR D. PLATT, of Plattsville, in the county of Kendall and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bag-Filler, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is a side view, showing the funnel and valve in vertical section. Fig. 2 is a'horizontal section of the funnel-tube, taken on the line w 00 of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the funnel, which may be made of any desired size, and of any suitable material. B is the discharge-tube of the funnel. In this tube is a valve, (3, which is moved horizontally through a narrow slot, cut through one side of the tube. The valve turns on a pivotpin, d, which goes through the ears 6 on the tube, and the arm f of the valve. The valve is closed by means of the spiral spring 2, one end of which is attached to the arm f and the other to the outside of the tubes. h is a knob or handle attached to the valve, by means of which the valve is drawn out to leave the tube clear to allow the contents of the funnel to drop into the sack beneath, the mouth of the sack or bag being held to the discharge-tube with one hand, while the valve is drawn back with the other. J is the stand, which is made adjustable by means of the screw-clamp K, to which itis attached,so as to be placed in any convenient position on the counter or shelf. L is the clam p-screw. M is a pivot-pin in the lower end of the stand, which passes through the clamp, and allows the stand to be turned in either direction, as may be required. This stand is curved in its upper part, and its upper end has a flaring horizontal band, N, which receives and supports the funnel, as seen in Fig. 1. This arrangement.prevents .waste, and greatly facilitates the operation of putting up the articles named.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A bag-filler, consisting of funnel A, vibratory stand J N M, and clamp K L, substantially as shown and described.
