Description

Patented Apr. 27, 1926.
" UZNFIT'ED "PST res HENRYCLEMENTDAUPHINAIS, OF 'FARGOyNORTHiDAKOTA.
Application-filed March'i, -1921, Serial -No. 450,135. Renewed October 1 2, 1925.
[[ all whom it may concern Be zit .known that I, JIENRY CLEMENT- (lass and State of North Dakota, have in-- vented a new and Improved Garment, of
vwhich-the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description. 7
My invention relates to a garment, and aims to provide certain new and useful improvements in connection'witha device of this character, and more1 particularly a sleeping garment.
An object of my invention is to provide a garment and .more particularly a sleeping garment by the use of which certain parts of the body of the wearer can be kept cooled. 1
Another object is to provide a sleeping garment which accomplishes the cooling of the body of the wearer, by means of flap applied to the back portion of a garment to cover or uncover accut-out portion.
A further object of my invention is the provision of a device of the character stated, which although accomplishing the object set forth in the preceding paragraph, will provide adequate warmth for the body of the person so that any danger of catching cold is avoided. I
Further objects of my invention will appear in the annexed specification, taken in connection with the attached drawings, which latter present practical embodiments of the same, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of a gari'nent constructed in accordance with my invention, and showing the same in applied position.
Figure 2 is a rear view thereof.
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional side view along the line 3-3 of Figure 2, and in the direction of the arrows indicated in this fi ure.
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken along the line 4-4 of Figure 1 and in the direction of the arrow.
Figure 5 is a rear View ofa slightly 'different form of garment.
It is well understood in connection with 50 sleeping garments, that it has been customary to utilize one of two classes, to wit, a gown or apajama suit, and with a vlew of illustrating my invention asapphed to the former,- reference is had to Figures 1 to 4 inclusive.
brought out.
In these figures it will be noted-that the reference numeral indicates gown of anydesign and material, whichis provided with a permanent yoke portion covering the shoulder blade of the wearer, and also .with a cutout portion extending from approximately the line of thearm pit-s to appreciably belowthe waist line thereof. =This cutout portion is-normally closedrby means of a flap 11., which may conveniently he of the same material as1thebody of the' 'own 10, and which is preferablypermanently -attached along one: edge, asby means of stitching 12 .to one edge of the ontout portion aforementioned- N i Any suitable securing means, such as buttons 13 may serve to retain the flap 11 in its proper position so that the garment may normally present the customary appearance, if the wearer desires this, as well as for a purpose hereinafter more fully To utilize the inventive idea involved the flap 11 may be opened so as to uncover the back of the wearer, and to counteract any tendency to excessive'heating. Further, the flap 11, aside from being provided'so as to present a garment of normal appearance may obviously be adjusted according to the warmth desired, so that the back may only' be partially or lightly uncovered.
To avoid undue chilling ofthe bodyfand to more particularly protect the chest, arms and shoulders, which are more remote from r the organs, I preferably construct my garment with a double thickness of material 14. In this manner not only that portion of the body. is kept warm, but'thegarment is also reinforced. f I
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a garment of the character stated, which will include structure permitting of an effectual guarding; against seminal emissions, aside from the fact that the same will include a constructionwhich will provide an ample guarding against the bod becoming unduly chilled.
It will also be seen that my invention is not limited to gowns alone,'as the same is equally well adapted for use in connection with pajamas, as has been illustrated in Figure 5. In this figure it will be noted that the body of the jacket 15 is provided with a flap 16 similar to th'efiap 11 in Figures 1 to i, and secured the same manner,- it
being obvious that the same results may be achieved by means of a garment of this type, and constructed in accordance with my invention, as with a gown.'
Obviously numerous modifications of structure might readily be resorted to without in the least departing from the spirit of my inventiom'which I claim as;
1. A sleeping garment comprising a front and a back and adapted to cover the body of the wearer, the back provided with a per manent yoke portion covering the shoulder blades of the wearer, said back having a cutout portion extending from said yoke from approximately the line of the armpits of the wearer to appreciably below the waistline of the wearer, and means attached to the garn'ient at one side of the opening for tempo rarily covering and uncovering the cut-out portion.
2. A sleeping garment comprising a front and a back and adapted to cover the body portion 01": the wearer, the back provided with a permanent yoke portion covering the shoulder blades of the wearer, said back havinga out out portion extending from said yoke from approximately the line of the armpits of the wearer to appreciably below the waist line of the wearer, and a flap permanently secured to the back along one side 01"" the opening and adapted for detachable connection with the back along the other sides of the opening, whereby to temporarily cover and uncover the out out portion.
3. A sleeping garment comprising a front and back and adapted to cover the body portion of the wearer, the back provided with a permanent yoke portion covering the shoulder blades of the wearer and a permanentlower eovering portion and having a cut out portion extending from said yoke approximately the whole width of the back from approximately the line of the ari'npits of the wearer to appreciably below the waist line, and means permanently attached to the garment at one side of the opening -for temporarily covering and uncovering the cut-out portion.
