if UNITE STATES FRANK R. OWENS, OF BEAVER CROSSING, NEBRASKA;
PUMP JACK.
Application filed April 29, 1925, Serial No. 26,736. Renewed March 2, 1926.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK R. OwnNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaver Crossing, in the county of Seward and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pump Jacks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in pump jacks, the general object of the invention being to provide an equalizing device for the reciprocating member to provide an even movement of the pump rod,
Another object of the invention is to make the parts ustable so that a spring of the desired strength can be used with the device.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure l is an elevation showing the i11 vention in use.
Figure 2 is a viewlooking at right angles to Figure l.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1. t
Figure 4 is a section on line 44 of Figure 1. V
Figure 5 is a section on line 55 of Figure 1. l e
Figure 6 is a section on line 66 of Fig ure 1.
Figure 7 is a sectional View through the upper cross piece and showing a portion of the pump rod passing through the same.
In these views A indicates the cylinder in which the device is arranged which reciprocates the rods 1 'whichare connected with the lower cross piece 2 and the upper cross piece 3. iect matter of a patent granted to me on December 16, 1924 Ne; 1,519,926. In this patent I make use of a weight for helping the device to lift the pump rod, and it is the object of the present invention to substitute spring means for this weight. Such means comprises an angle bar 4 having its forked end 5 fastened to the cross piece 3 This device forms the 'suband a second angle bar 6 pivoted to an upright 7 on the cylinder A and having one arm of fork-shape, as shown at 8, to receive an, arm of the bar l, the two parts being pivoted together by the pin 9 which is adapted to engage any one of a plurality of sets of holes 10 formed in the parts so that the two angle bars can be adjustably connected together. adjusted on thegupright by means of the pivot pin 11 engaging any one of a number of holes 12 in said upright.
The bar 6 can also be This'bar 6 s has a depending part 13 thereon which has an eye at its lower end through which a bolt 14 passes whichis carried by the up right 7 and has a spring 15 thereon which balances the weight of the bar 6. The bars 4: and G are provided with notches 16011 the outer edges for receiving the clips 17 to which a spring 18 is connected, the notches permitting the clips of the spring to be adjusted on the bar.
As'will be seen, the spring tends to hold a the bars 4 and 6 in parallel position, as shown in Figure l, but onthe down stroke of the pump the arms will spread apart and thus tension the spring so that the, spring will help the device to lift the pump parts on the up-stroke. Thus the spring will take the place of the weight shown in the patent above referred to and the device will act to equally divide the power of the 2 operating device for the pump on the up and down strokes and provide an even movement of the pump .rod. By making the parts adjustable springs of different strength can be used to suit the workbeing done.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood thatI may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention,
what is claimed as new, is
1. An equalizing device for a pump operating apparatus comprising an angle bar connected with a reciprocating part of the apparatus, a supporting bar of angle shape to which the first bar is pivoted, a spring connecting the two bars together, means for adjusting the parts to enable springs of diiferent strength to be used, and a counterother limb of the supporting bar and its balanced spring for the supporting bar. other limb connected with a reciprocating 2. An equalizing device for a pump operpart of the apparatus, a spring connecting 1 ating apparatus comprising a support, a the parallel portions of the tWo bars to- 5 supporting bar of angle shape having one gether.
limb pivoted to the support, an angle bar In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. having one limb adjustably pivoted to the FRANK R. OWENS.
