Description

April 2o, 1926.
Patented Apr. .29, 1926.
GEORGE w. C Assrnr,
or NEW YORK, N. v
ELECTRIC SWITCH.
Application inea Marchi.
To U whom 'it may concern.'
Be it lrnown that 1, Gnonen W. Gassinv, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city. county, and State ofNew York, have invented a certainnew anduseful Improvement in ElectricY Switches, of which the following is a specification.
My invent-ion relates to that` class of devices which are used with lightingfixtures and .has forits object to provide a more convement switclrthan is obtainable inany of the standard devices now employedforthat purpose and has forits further object to provide a device which may be constructed in such a way, as to be extremely ornamento.
My means of accomplishing the foregoing objects may be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying, drawings which are hereuntoy annexechand which are a part of this specification- Fig. 1 is an elevation view of my device with ornamentation.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal cross sec-tion of my device. y
Fig. 3 is an elevation view showing device in closed position.
Fig. 4 is an elevation view showing device in open position.
Fig. 5 is a bottom view.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the entire description.
As shown in the drawings, I employ7 a` chain pull switch 1 which is of the standard construction with th-e exception that the chain Q depends from the bottom 3 Aof the switch 1 rather `than coming out through the side of the shell. f
The switch 1 is provided with a cap d of the usual description, which is provided with the usual shoulder 5 which is provided with threads in which is mounted a vertical cylindrical sleeve G which furnishes a conduit for the electric wires 7 and8. This conduit 6 has slidably mounted upon it a disc 9 which has an upwardly extending sleeve 9a attached thereto. disc 9 is a downwardly depending arm y10 the lower end of 11 which is bent inwardly and is slotted to engage the chain 2 as illustrated.
A coil spring 13 is mounted intermediate the cap 4 and the disc 9 serving to hold the disc normally in the position shown in Fig. 3.
The conduit 6 is providedv with a shoulder Secured to the Y '1924. serial No. 697,459.-
14 which acts as ra'de'tent4 to prevent` the movement of the disc 9 beyonda predeter-` mined point. Y
have found it advisable to provide a' wooden mold 15 which is mounted upon the disc 9 and intermediate'the detentV irland the top of the disc 9. Thismold 15 `serves to provide a suitablemounting forthe fabric formingthe ornamental covering 16v which entends down over and encloses thefactuating mechanism.
It may be-founddesirableto enclose 'this fabric in a fringe 18 where a more highly ornamental appearance is desiredgand' to nore elfectually hide the mechanism of the switch. Y y i The device as thus parent from the drawings, looks like an ornamental tassel.A I
All that is necessary in -order to establish theY connection between the electric wires device, preferably by the mold 15 and pull 1t downwardly upon the conduit 6 to the position clearly seen in the dotted lines lin Fig. 1 thereby drawing the chain 2 down lll/'hen the light is to be extinguished the same operation is repeated with the result that the connection is established.
For illustrative purposes and only for that purpose, I have shown a speciiic form of construction for the embodyment of my invention, but it should be understood that l do not limit myself to the precise details of construction shown and described, but that various changes in the same may be made within the scope of my invention as described and hereinafter claimed.
Having described my invention what I regard as new and desire to secure by LettersPatent is:
1. The combination with a pull switch of a conduit mounted on said switch, a disc 'slidably mounted on said conduit, a downwardly depending arm secured to said disc, said arm being connected to the chain of said switch, a spring intermediate the switch. and the disc, a detent on said conduit to prevent the movement of said disc beyond a predetermined point.
2. The combination with a pull chain constructed, as is apl8, so as to light the lamp, is `to grasp the i switch of a conduit mounted on said switch, a disc slidably mounted on said conduit; a depending arm 'secured to said disc, the lower end of said arm being adapted to engage the chain of said switch, a spring intermediate the switch and disc which holds the disc normally in an elevated position, and a detent which prevents movement of said disc beyond a predetermined point.
3. The combination with a pull chain switch, of a conduit for the electrical wires, Said conduit being secured to said switch, spring actuated means slidably mounted on said conduit, means movable with said slidable means to engage the chain on said switch, and means to prevent the movement of said slidable means beyond a` predetermined point. 1
The combination with ay pull'chain switch of a conduit mounted on said switch, a disc slidably mounted on said conduit, a. mold lmounted on said disc, a downwardly depending arm secured to said disc, the lower end of said arm being adapted to enf gage the chain of said switch, a spring inter? mediate the switch and disc which holds the disc normally in an elevated position, and a detent which prevents movement of said disc beyond apredetermined point, the fabric covering secured to said mold which conceals said spring and switch.
5. The combination with a pull chain switch of a conduit for thev electrical wires, said conduit being secured to said switch, spring actuated means slidably mounted on said conduit, means movable with said slidable means to engage the chain on said switch means to prevent the movement of said slidable means beyond a predetermined point, and an ornamental covering which encloses the means which actuate the switch.
6. The combination kwith a 'pull chain switch, 'a conduit secured tO'said switch, spring actuated means slidably mounted on said conduit means movablewith said slidable means to engage the chain on said switch, a detent toprcvent the movement of said slidable means beyond a predetermined point. K
7. The combination with a pull chain switch of a tassel slidably secured thereto, a mold on said switch, means carried by the mold which engages the chain of thev switch, and a spring intermediate the mold and the switch which holds the mold normally away from the switch.
