c. MOEILLERY ROOF CONSTRUCTION Filed August a, 1925 Christ moe zzar Patented Apr. 20, 1926.
UNLTE'D STATEg CHRIST MOELLERQ OF DENVER, IOWA.
ROOF CONSTRUCTION.
Application filed August 8, 1925. Serial No. 48,997.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that-1', CHRIsT MUELLER, citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Denver,
in the county of Breiner and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roof Constructions, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in roof constructions, and the object of my improvement is to furnish a roofing of a composite nature adapted to be quickly and easily applied to a roof at a moderate expense, having durability, and possessing the attributes of being both waterand fire-proof.
This object I have successfully accomplished by the means which are hereinafter described and claimed, and which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Fig. 1 is a fragmental perspective view ofa roof composed according to my invention, with parts removed or broken away. Fig. 2 is a cross section of the roof parts shown in said Fig. 1 with some additional parts supplied. Fig. 3 is a cross section taken vertically across the peak of a roof to particularly disclose the peak construction, the concrete matrix being omitted.
The numeral 1 denotes roof boards providing supporting-means for my improved roofing constructions. The numeral 2 denotes marginal plates secured by nails 7 upon the opposite marginal parts of said boards 1 and having upwardly directed flanged parts 3 whose upper parts are bent over inwardly at 4-, providing channels between the parts 2 and 41-. The numeral 5 denotes angle-bar ribs secured by nails 6 across the boards 1 horizontally to terminate within said channels 23-4 and appropriately spaced apart and from other channeled members (see'Fig. 2) shown at 8 but of like shape to the first mentioned channeled members, although varied in dimensions to. fit therein at their opposite ends. The numeral 9 denotes a metallic netting supported upon the angle-bars 5 spaced above the boards 1 and having end wires 10 bent down over opposite anglebars as shown in Fig. 1 to be secured under tension by means of staples 11 driven into said 66 boards 1. p At the peak or ridge-pole of the roof, Fig.
3 showsone way of constructing the roof connections of the opposite slopes. Beveled terminal pieces 12 of channeled shape are fitted within the upper channeled ends of the channeled plates 2 to fit together at their beveled edges above the ridge-pole. A ridgeplate 13 may then be fitted over the abutted parts of the roofing when complete and secured by nails 15 driven into the roof boards 1.
The roofing structure proper is a continuous plate or body of concrete or other initially plastic material worked through the inter- 7 stices of the stretched netting 9 to rest upon the roof boards 1, to position the reinforcing netting substantially medially within the concrete. The concrete is worked into the channels 3 and 8 and should preferably be 7 thick enough to overlap the tops of the inwardly bent parts 41 in a sulficientmeasure as indicated in Fig. 1. A water-proofing. composition layer 17 may be then spread.
evenly and adhesively upon the concrete sheet when sufiiciently hardened, and may be of any plastic substances of durability. The roofing is thus both fireand waterproof, of even thickness throughout, and is prevented from cracking by means of the embedded wire netting 9 which upholds it throughout.
This kind of roofing may be applied by unskilled labor, hence can be relatively inexpensive considering its durability, as the concrete becomes harder in time, while the top layer 17 may be easily renewed when worn down by the action of the elements.
I-Iaving'described my invention, what I claim as new, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a roof construction, roof supports, marginal inwardly directed relatively high channel members secured thereon at two opposite sides thereof, one flange of each'being wider than the other and secured upon said sup ports, cross-bars secured across the other opposite parts of the supports, lower than, and extending into the channels of said channelbars, a wire netting having tWo opposite ends crossing said crossbars, placed under tension and having their terminals secured to said supports at the outer bases of the cross- 3 bars said netting being positioned medially of and extending into the channels of said channel-bars, a ceinentitious layer filling the interspace of said channeland cross-bars to embed said netting, said cross-bars, the
fastenings of the netting therein, and a 10 waterproofing layer covering the upper surface of said vcementitious layer.
