UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE SINON COLLINS, OF MEADVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
LOCK'ZEOR PLUGS.
Application filed April 29, 1924. Serial No. 709,867
2" 0 all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, Gnonen S. COLLINS,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Meadville, in the county of Crawford and State. of Pennsylvania, have 1nvented anew and Improved Lock for Plugs,
cups, although not necessarily restricted to such use. v r V The outstanding object of the present invention resides in the provision of an extremely simple and inexpensive form of locking means for positively precluding the retrograde or unthreading movement of a plug whereby loss or displacement otthe' same eliminated. r I
As a further object the invention comprebends a plug locking means which is readily operable to lock or release the plug when necessary. I V
1th the above recited and other ObJGClJS in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specilication, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the'general meaning of the terms in which the claim is expresse l. p
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a side view of the plug removed from the container, receptacle. or other member with which it is engageahle.
Fig. 2 isa side view of the member with the plug removed. i
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view with the plug in applied position to the member and with the locking means inserted.
Fig. 4 is a sectional plan view taken approximately on the line H ofFig. .3.
de. j of the pin, the opposite ends of which are Referringto the drawings by characters 01. reference, 10 designates a plug which is provided with an externally threaded boss 11 adapted to screw into an internally threaded filling opening 12 of a receptacle, container or other member 13. In order to provide means for locking the plug against unthreading or retrograde movement when l1 applied position, ,thesaidplug is provided with an annular peripheral groove 14, while the net-1:15 of the receptacle or container defining the outlet opening is provided with aligned apertures 16 in a planewhich intersects the outlet'opening and the groove '14 when the plug is in applied position. A
retaining pin 17 is then inserted through theapertures 16 so that a portion of the pin intersects the groove and prevents renoval thereof. The pin 17 may be in the nature oi a cotter pin in which instance one entremity the'reofis spread asat 18, or ii red a length oi wire may be used 111 lieu bent to prevent its removal. Under this construction and arrangementit Will be observed that the plug is effectually locked against displacement when the pinv is in inserted relation. In order to remove the plug it is only necessary to withdraw the pin which admits of unthreading or retrograde, movement of the plug to elte'ct its removal.
I claim: p
The combination with a member having a bossed outlet formed with an internally threaded portion constituting aseat and a closure plug having a threaded boss and a peripheral flange spaced from the threaded portion of the boss to define 'an annular groove, of means for locking the plug in closed relation to the bossed outlet comprising alined aperture portions in the bosse-d outlet and a retaining pin insertable through said aperture portions and presenting a part ofsaid retaining pin in intersecting relation to the'grooved portion.
, GEORGE 'SINON COLLINS.
