Description

HQ 5. MARSH BUNG AND PAUCET LOCK Filed March 27, 1924 gwucntoz Patented Sept 30, 1924.
HOMER S. MARSH, F TRACY, IOWA.
B'UNG AND FAUCET LOCK.
Application filed March 27, 1924. Serial N'o. 702,454.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOMER S. MARSH, a citizen of the .United States, residing at Tracy, in the county of Marion and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bung and Faucet Locks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in- Vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it, appertains to make and use the same.
The object of the present invention is to prevent the surreptitious withdrawal of the contents of a barrel, keg or like container during transportation, stowage or at such other times whenit is desired to prevent unauthorized withdrawal of the contents of a package, such as a barrel or keg.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application:
Figure 1 is a side View of a faucet having locking means associated therewith embodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the parts shown in Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a detail view showing the invention applied to a bung.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the dra ings by like reference characters.
The numeral 1 designates a portion of a container such asa barrel or keg, to which may be fitted a faucet 2 or a bung 3. The lock-- ing means comprise a handle 4: which is pivoted at one end to the faucet or bung and its opposite end is provided with a slot or opening 5. A threaded stem 6 is provided at one end with an eye '4' which is adapted to pass through the slot or opening of the handle 4- and which receives a padlock 8 by means of which the handle 4 is made secure, where by to prevent the opening of the faucet or bung to draw off any of the contents of the barrel or other container. The threaded stem 6 passes diagonally through the coupling portion of the faucet or bung, thereby preventing removal of either the faucet or bung. A packing nut 9 is applied to the threaded stem adjacent the eye 7 and provides for compressing a packing to prevent any leak or waste of the contents of the barrel. When the padlock S is removed, the handle 41 may be disengaged from the eye 7, thereby admitting of opening the faucet or bung by one duly authorized for such purpose.
What is claimed is:
1. Locking means for a liquid dispensing fixture, the same comprising a pivoted handle, a threaded stem adapted to engage the handle, and a lock for securing the handle to the stem.
2. Locking means for a liquid dispensing fixture, the same comprising a pivoted handle, a threaded stem adapted to engage the handle, a lock for securing the handle to the stem, and a packing nut mounted upon the stem to insure a close joint.
3. Locking means for a liquid dispensing fixture, the same comprising a handle pivot ed at one end thereto and having an opening in its opposite end. a threaded stein passing through the coupling end of the liquid dispensing fixture at an inclination and having an eye to pass through the open ing of the handle. and a lock engaging the eye of the stem and serving to secure the handle thereto.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HOMER S. MARSH. lVitnesses V. G. MADDY, VERA MASTERSON.
