Description

April 6, 1926.
J- C. SCHWARTZ TOOTHBRUSH STERILIZER Filed May 19, 924
Patented Apr. 6, 1 926.
' UNITED STATES JACOB C. SCHWARTZ, F STCLOUIS MISSOURI.
'roornnnosn s'rmumzna Application filed Kay 19,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAooB C. SCHWARTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at. the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Toothbrush Sterilizers, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
This invention relates to a certain new and .useful improvement in tooth-brush steriland pointed out in the claims.
a of form,
lzers.
It is a known factthat many diseases are spread from tooth-brush to tooth-brush, and it is common practice today in many households, so far as I am aware, to suspend the family brushes in group relation upon a rack or the like where they are exposed to contamination not only by one another, but also by the odors, dust, and germs of the bath-room, the breeding, promotion, and spread of diseases frequently resulting.
My present invention has hence for its chief object the provision ofmeans in the form of individual brush-containers equipped with a fume-emitting germicide for effecting-separate brush-sterilization.
My invention has also for an object. the provision of means of the type and for the purpose stated that is inexpensive in form and convenlent not only for. suspension or support upon a wall or the like, but also for portability. v
My invention has for an additional object the provision of means of the type and for the purpose stated including a fume-emitting germicide in tablet or solid form thatmay conveniently be 'renewably disposed within the container and that is-eifective in the performance of its intended function without injury either to the person or brush.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention resides in the novel features construction, arrangement, and. combination of parts hereinafter described In the accompanying drawings,-' Figure 1 is an elevational view, partly broken awayand in section at its ends, of a tooth-brush sterilizer embodying my invention' a Figure-2 is an elevational view of a plurality of such sterilizers in grouped relation upon a support;
Figure 3 is an end of the group of sterilizers of'F-igure 2; and
. retard rotary movement loosely. placed lengthwise upon a support- 1924. Serial No. 714,360.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the sterilizing-tablet proper and its holder.
Referring now more in detail and by reference characters to the drawing, which il- 0 Q lustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, A designates a container, which is preferably in the form 'of an open-end tubular shell of glass or other suitable material and of suitable dimensions for lengthwise individually housingthe usual or standard tooth-brush B. i
Fitting removably in the shell A, is a tablet-holding and brush resting member formed preferaby of a single section of suit- 7 able sheet metal and integrally comprising a disk 1 having a plurality of perforations or vapor-vents 2 and strips 3 projecting laterally from the disk 1 at diametrically opposite points. The strips 3 are first in suit ably spaced relation from the disk 1 .bent and flatwise doubled upon themselves in alignment to form or provide a air of oppositely disposed fingers 4-4, as est seen in Figure 4, and then again bent inwardly at a suitable distance from the fingers 44 to form or provide a second pair of oppositely disposed aligning fingers 5, 5, the free ends 'of the strips 3 being disposed in approxi-- mately the axial plane of the disk and bent outwardly or downwardly, as at 6, 6 to pro- 'ect at an angle to the lower set of fingers 5, 5, for 'yieldinglr reinforcing or strengthening the same. rasped and supporte in flatwise spaced relation to and under the 7 disk 1 by the pairs of co-operatingfingers 4,
4, and 5, 5, is a disk or tablet 7 of such nature and character as to emit or throw off germicidal fumes or vapors which spread throu hout and fill the container or shell A and eect sterilization of the contained brush B. Effectively closing the lower end of shell A, is a preferably threaded imperforate cap 8, and likewise removably closing the upper end of shell A, is a referabl rubber stopper or closure 9 formed prefera ly with an angular rim or margin, as at 10, to prevent or of the shell A when Preferably also the stopper 9 is equipped with a depending brush-engaging hoo 11 to facilitate conjoint removal of the brush B from its shell or container A on removal of the sto per 9.
i l eflicient in the performance of its intended auctions and in the accomplishment of the objects stated. The germicidal matter, being in solid or tablet form, permits of convenient carrying of the shell A in traveling or other handling without its ingredients, frequently disagreeable to the taste and often poisonous to the person, coming in contact with the brush and, in addition, its removal and replacement is most easy and convenient. If desired and as I have illustrated, one or more of the shells A may be supported for ready use upon a wall or the like by means of a suitable rack D. c
I am aware that minor changes in the form, construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts of my new sterilizer may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departure from the nature and principle of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a tooth-brush sterilizer, a tabletholding and brush-resting member comprising a perforated disk and spaced strips projecting laterally from the disk, the strips being first bent and doubled upon themselves intermediate their ends to provide a pair of oppositely disposed aligning fingers in spaced relation to and under the disk and then a ain in spaced relation to said first pair of fingers inwardl 1 bent to provide a second pair of opposite y disposed aligning fingers, said pairs of fingers being adapted for co-operation in grasping and flatwise supporting a germicidal tablet under and in spaced relation to the' disk.
2. In a tooth-brush sterilizer, a tabletholding and brush-resting member formed of a single section of sheet material and integrally comprising a perforated disk and spaced strips projecting laterally from the dlsk, the strips being first bent and doubled upon themselves intermediate 'their ends to provide a pair of oppositely disposed aligning fingers in spaced relation to and under the disk and then a ain in spaced relation.
fingers inwardly bent toto said first pair of provide a second pair of oppositely disposed aligning fingers, said pairs of fingers being adapted for co-operation in grasping and flatwise supporting a germicidal tablet under and in spaced relation to the disk.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
JACOB CISCHWARTZ.
