` H. R. FIELDS CHECK PROTECTOR Filed Nov. 24, 1923 i* INVENTOR N Nmlllo Patented Apr. 6, 1926.l
UNITED STATES nARRYn. FIELDS, or ORLANDO, FLORIDA.
CHECK PROTECTOR.
. Application led November 24, 1923. Serial NO; 676,685.
To all ywhom, t may concern: Y
Be 1t known that (I, Hanni R. FIELDS, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Orlando, in the county of Oran-ge and State of Florida, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Check Protectors, ofv
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to check protectors and more particularly to such type of protectors which may be utilized in connection with theV so-called pocket check booksi .Y
The object of the'invention is to provide a check protector especially adaptablefor use in connection with pocket check books which is simple in structure, eiiicient'in operation and economical of manufacture.
A further object of the invention is to provide a check protector ofthe character setvforth which ifs simple, compact and composed of a. minimum of parts.
A further object of the inventio-n is to provide a check protector which may be con-` veniently utilized with pocket size checks and which will effectively and efficiently protect the vital parts of the check againsty alter-ation. f
Other objects of the invention will appear more fully hereinafter.
The invention consists substantially in the construction, combination, location and relative arrangement of parts, all as will be more fully hereinafter set forth as shown by the accompanying drawing and finally pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure l is a view in plan perspective of one type of pocket check protector embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a face view of a form of pocket size check to be used in connection therewith.
Fig. 3 is a view in plan of a modified form of check protector embodying my invention.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the same in its compact folded form. V
The same part is designated by the same reference character wherever it occurs throughout the several views. Y v
l It is amo-ng the special purposes `of my present invention to provide a checkf protector especially adapted for use in connection with the pocket size checks and" hich may` be conveniently carried in a c z ipact manner with the checks or pocket sine-'check bookso as to be always available for protecting the check `from mutilation or otherwise against loss as to its vital or material ele-V ments;
vide a perforating portion and an inking In accordance with ymy invention I pro-l portion whereby the check is perforated at the important portions thereof ysuch as the 'portion on which is written payee, and the amount of the draft. I also provide means for inlrin-g the perforating elements whereby ink or other type of stain is imparted to the body of the check at the perforations to thereby combine with the perfora` tions and render it impossible to alter the portions of the check thus perforated and inked in such 'a way asto avoid ready detection.
InrFig. 2 I have shown a standard form of checkof the pocket check book size, and
inFig. l I have shown one type of check protector embodying my yinvention wherein the protector consists of a small, compact box or container l having a receiving body 2 therein of any suitable material such as rubber, cork, for the like, and beneath which 'is located an Aink or other `type of stain pad.
The container l is provided with a cover 3.
.The end surface of the cover 3 is provided the cover with respect to the body thereofV thereof tear through the paper of the check,
project through the non-inked pad 2 and into the inked pad portionfthereunder. The undried ink on the projections 4 will, of course, e'ect a `stain on S the paper of the check, and if there is anyundried ink on the perforators 4 when thecover is lifted again to permit the removalotthe check,
the ends of the projections 4 which have been injected into the inked pad portion will eiect an inking on the perforated paper.
Referring to Figs. 3 and 4, while I have utilized a construction of perforator vwhich is substantially identical with that hereinbefore described with respect to Fig. l, I show the same forming part of a holder or encompassing folder for the check book. In this arrangement the folder consi-sts of the body containing the bottom portion k5 provided with a binder edge 6 for suitable attachment to oneend of a pocket check book. rIhe body 5 is provided with a hinged portion 7, a top portion 8 and a flap 9 adapted to fasten to the hinged portion 6 in any suitable manner, as illustrated in Figp, when the folder is in its folded position, as shown. The check protector generally described at 10 is formed on a portion 1l hinged or otherwise secured to the hinged portion 6 which'forms a binder for the checks. The structure of the check protector l0 is substantially the same vas that de-y scribed in connection with Fig. 1 wherein the inked pad portion 12 is located at the bottom with the non-inked pad portion 2 thereabove and the perforating portion L contained on the cover 3.
In this arrangement it Vwill be readily sec'n that it is advisable to secure the hinged connection between the cover and the check protector body at the end edge thereof, rather than at the side edge. It will be further seen that with this arrangement a compact, combined check protector and checkbook cover is effected. A check, after having been filled out is detached from its stub, inserted between the hinged cover and the body of the check protector, the cover closed and the protection of the check effected.
I do not desire to be limited or restricted to any particular location of the check protector or to the perforating portions thereof or to the mechanical details of construction, for many,v modifications and changes in detail will readily occur to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, but having now set forth the objects and nature of my invention and having shown and described a 'structure embodying the principles thereof, what I claim as new and useful and of my own invention, and desire to secure by Letter Patent 1s:
l. In a check protector, the combination with a container having an ink pad portion and an inkless pad portion thereon, yand a metallic cover for said container provided with projections stamped out of the saine to tear through a check and extend through said inkless pad portion into said ink pad portion. Y 2. In a check protector, the combination with a container having an ink pad portion and an inkless pad portion thereover and a cover for said container, said cover having means for tearing through a check and extend through said inkless pad portion into said ink` pad portion.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand on this fifth day of November HARRY R. FIELDS.
