W. H. DEMPSEY ET AL HOSE PROTECTOR Filed August 26, 1925 Ewen-"Q2 Patented Apr. 6, 1926.
WILLI M H. DEMPSEY AND OBON J. WAGGONER, OF ALTON, ILLINOIS.
Hosn PROTECTOR.
Application filed August 26, 1925 SeriatNo. 52,524;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, VILLIAM H. DEMP- snY and Ono)? J. AG-Gonna, citizens of the United States, residing at Alton, in the county of Madison and State of. Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose Protectors, of which the following-is a specification.
Our invention relates to hose protectorsv I of the type shown in our Patent No. 1,504,-
945, dated August 12, 1924. I
The object of the invention is to simplify the construction shown in our patent above referred to as will hereinafter appear.-
This object we accomplish by the construction shown in the accompanying drawing 1n wh1ch Fig. 1 is a plan of the protector prior to its being bent into shape;
Fig. 2 is a perspective of the protector; Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the protector applied to the hose; and
Fig. 6 is a sectional side elevation thereof.
The protector is formed from an -shaped blank the two attaching arms 1 1 of which are apertured as at 2 for the passage of the securing screws 3, 3 and 1 is the member or body portion integral with the said arms; The body portion 4'is provided along its, opposite longitudinal edges with flanges 5, 6; the
5 being curved or inclined towards the flange 6 being straight and the flange An open channel is thus formed flange 6.
flanges 5 and 6 into which the by the two adjacent end of the protecting coil 9' is sprung, as shown in Fig. 5. 'In use the blank formed as in Fig. 1, is curved as shown in Fig. 2 and its two ends 1, 1 are inserted between the outer side of the hose 10 and inner side of the coupling member 11, where they are secured by the screws 3, 3 and the coiled protecting wire 9, will have its adjacent free end sprung-intothe \llEiIlllGl. formed by the flanges 5, 6. The two arms 1, 1, are each formed with a trans verse shoulder-forming groove 13, to receive the annular shoulder 14 on the inner side of the outer end of the coupling member 11.
The open channel formed by the flanges 5 and 6 is cheaper, to
' the said body a thethe ubu a membershown in our said patent and it is easier to spring the end of the coiled protecting wire into place and the two arms 1, c
1 afford a stronger means of attachment than the single arm of the patent.
1 WVhat we claim is: e I
1. Ahose protector comprising, a I: shaped member,'the end arms of which are aper- 'tured for attaching screws and the body of -whichis provided between its longitudinal edges with an open channel,
2. A hose protector curved to conform to V a coiled wire wrapping and formed of a' body portion'provided with attaching arms projecting in the same direction from the opposite ends of the same side-edge thereof; portion being formed with an open circumferential channel to receive the .end of a coiled wire wrapping.
3. A hose protector comprising a Cshaped member, the body portion of whichis formed with an open longitudinal channel between itslongitu'dinal edges, and the end arms of which are grooved transversely 'at their juncture with the said body portion. 44A hose protector comprising a body portion curved to fit around a hose and provided along the longitudinal edges with channel forming flanges, the inner flange being inclined towards the outer flange, and attaching arms at the ends of'the body portion to lie between a hose and its coupling member; the said arms being groovedat their juncture. with the body portion to receive an annular rib on the inner side of a coupling member.
5. The combination with a coupling member for wire wrapped hose provided on its inner side with an annular rib, of a protector comprising a curved body to fit It 18 obvious that the flanges 5-6, may be bent down upon the coiled wire if so desired.
the exterior of the hose and having an open circumferential channel to receive the end of a wire wrapping; the ends of the proteotor having'arins secured between the coupling and hose,- and formed with transverse grooves receiving the annular rib on said coupling member.
In testimony whereof we afliX our signatures.
